Intervention specialist Pre-K-5 and/or K-12JOB OBJECTIVE Provide appropriate educational experiences for identified pupils with learning disabilities or developmental learning deficiencies JOB REQUIREMENTS Hold a valid Ohio teaching certificate with certification in the area of Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive) BCI/FBI Background Checks JOB LOCATION Classroom location will be assigned according to the policy and administrative rules of the Northwest Local School District EQUIPMENT UTILIZED Computer Copier/Printer Phone Electronic Devices JOB FUNCTIONSEssential Provides instruction in the assigned subjects and/or grade level in a classroom setting which implements the philosophies of the Northwest Local School District and utilizes the courses of study adopted by the Board of Education Aid students in learning organizational skills Assist student to complete homework and classroom work in subject areas in which he/she is behind grade level Work with the student to remediate those skills he/she is lacking or in which he/she is behind grade level Utilize a wide variety of alternate teaching strategies, learning modes, aural, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic (i.e., for the student who has difficulty learning visually, the tutor would employ aural or tactile methods Act as a member of the placement team and IEP committee Observe students who have been referred for testing and record pertinent information on the observation report form used by the Northwest district when appropriate (before a conference with parents and psychologist) Develop and write IEP's for students for the next school year Schedule parent conferences to discuss the IEP and obtain parent signature Maintain contact with parents of students so that school and home may work together Refer, to the guidance counselor or psychologist, any problems which a student may be having of an emotional nature, which interfere with either behavior or school performance Work closely with teachers to know what progress has been made or in which new areas student may need help Assist administration in conferences for students involved in disciplinary action (secondary) Assist in developing the emotional maturity of the students Assist in developing problem solving and critical thinking skills Scheduling of students as needed Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports Develops lesson plans, instructional materials and provides individualized instruction when appropriate Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials and maintains required inventory records Additional duties as assigned Non-Essential N/A
