About St, John'sFounded in 1826 as a home for orphaned children, St. John's has evolved into a nonprofit social services agency providing residential care to New York City youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. We offer holistic, trauma-informed support to young people up to age 21. Our main campus in Rockaway Park, Queens, houses a Residential Treatment Center, Close to Home Non-Secure Placement programs, administrative offices, clinical services, and an on-site NYC Department of Education school. We also operate a Non-Secure Detention residence in Richmond Hill and Limited Secure Placement programs in Brooklyn and Staten Island. Summary Job Description: The Education/Vocational Specialist focuses on the educational and vocational needs of our youth. The Educational/Vocational Specialist will begin working with the youth 4 months prior to discharge with a goal of integrating youth in desired educational and/or vocational track. The EV Specialist makes connections with community agencies to foster opportunities for NSP youth to be successful in community. The EV Specialist also enhances our youth's vocational skills and knowledge which will assist them in work opportunities.Principle Responsibilities: Demonstrates fidelity to the agency's service values and organizational imperatives. Establishes working relationships with community-based organizations and stores to provide work/volunteer opportunities for NSP youth Job placement assistance; Schedule, coordinate interviews for our youth. Individualize work/ volunteer opportunities gear towards career interests of youth. Works collaboratively with Case Planners and other team members to ensure informationregardingeducational/ vocational needsarecommunicated acrossmultidisciplinaryteam.Identifies both educational and vocational training needs and programs for youth geared towards their career interests. Coordinates special events including but not limited to; developing job fairs, college fairs, college trips, etc.Assists with college application and financial aid application assistance as needed for resident youth. Completes Individual services for vocational preparation including but not limited to, career explorer, online interest profiler, Career Education Plan,Etc.Establishes working relationships with community-based organizations and stores to provide work/ volunteeropportunities for resident youth. Connects residents to vocational program and/or job opportunity in home community. Follow up with school placement/ vocational program to ensure youth is successfully transition into community and set up additional aid if youth is struggling in school/ work. Works collaboratively with and obtains needed documents/vital records to include educational/vocational documents. Ensures case progress notes entered into CNNX timely but not less than required by Program Director/agency policy. Facilitates workshops to address youth's needs for preparation of post placement; career club curriculum such as interviewing skills, resume writing, professionalism and training related to job search and preparation for employment. Acts as a liaison between the agency, Board of Education, local school district, community advisory board and youth organizations. Participates in ACS/other meetings, on behalf of residents, for educational/vocational status and reports progress and needs.Prepares for and advocates for resident needs while sharing information on regulations, procedures and compliance Attends any/ all recommending trainings/ work related forums/ gatherings. Any/ All other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in related field; Direct experience working with troubled teens and their families in Juvenile Justice or related field specified experience in education and vocation is essential. A successful candidate will be enthusiastic and be able to maintain working relationship with outside community providers. Candidate must be team player who is able to think quickly on their feet. He/ She must be highly organized and energetic. The Candidate must have strong writing skills. Demonstrates fidelity to the agency's service values and organizational imperatives.Travel Requirements:This position requires routine throughout the five boroughs.
