Job Summary The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist in the diagnosis and evaluation of patient medical conditions. This role includes patient preparation, capturing high-quality diagnostic images, and ensuring the accuracy of images for interpretation by radiologists and physicians. The Ultrasound Technologist adheres to radiation safety protocols and maintains equipment in accordance with departmental standards in an acute care hospital setting. Essential Functions Perform ultrasound imaging procedures in accordance with established protocols, ensuring patient safety and comfort Prepare and position patients for ultrasound procedures, ensuring optimal imaging and diagnostic accuracy Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation Document patient history, imaging procedures, and observations in the electronic medical record (EMR) Maintain equipment, including cleaning, calibrating, and reporting equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel Assist radiologists and physicians during invasive ultrasound-guided procedures, such as biopsies and aspirations Monitor and assess patients for adverse reactions to procedures or contrast media and respond appropriately Participate in quality control initiatives to maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance Educate patients and family members regarding imaging procedures and provide compassionate patient care Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with infection control policies Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound imaging protocols Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and teamwork Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and related diagnostic software Strong attention to detail and accuracy in imaging and documentation Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and maintaining ARDMS certification QualificationsEducation Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound or Radiologic Technology program required Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Radiologic Technology preferred Licenses/Certifications ARDMS certification in at least one specialty area (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular) required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required ARRT (S) or (VS) certification preferred Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in diagnostic ultrasound imaging preferred Experience in a hospital or acute care setting preferred
