Position : Patient Care Technician Location : Belleville, IL 62226 Duration : 13 weeks Contract Shift : 6:45 AM-07:15 PM. 6:45 PM-07:15PM Pay Rate : $20 to $25Roles and Responsibilities of a Patient Care Technician: Vital Signs Monitoring: Take and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and temperature. Report any abnormal readings to the nursing staff. Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist patients with tasks like bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation. Help patients maintain their independence and dignity. Patient Mobility: Assist in transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids. Help with positioning and turning bedridden patients to prevent pressure ulcers. Blood Sugar Monitoring: Perform blood glucose monitoring for diabetic patients and report results to the healthcare team. Specimen Collection: Collect specimens for laboratory testing, such as urine or stool samples, and ensure proper labeling and documentation. Assistance with Feeding: Assist patients with eating and drinking, ensuring they receive proper nutrition and hydration. Basic Wound Care: Assist in the cleaning and dressing of wounds, under the direction and supervision of licensed healthcare professionals. Medical Equipment Operation: Set up and operate medical equipment like heart monitors, oxygen tanks, and infusion pumps. Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report any malfunctions. Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. Medical Records and Documentation: Accurately document patient information, care provided, and any observed changes in condition. Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure proper recordkeeping. Assisting with Procedures: Assist healthcare providers with various procedures, such as catheterization, wound care, and tracheostomy care. Providing Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and companionship to patients, addressing their concerns and providing reassurance. Patient Education: Provide basic education to patients and their families on topics like self-care, medication management, and disease management. Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies promptly, following established protocols and seeking assistance from the appropriate healthcare professionals. Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work closely with nurses, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients. Continuous Learning and Professional Development: Stay updated on healthcare practices, attend training sessions, and participate in continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
