Key Responsibilities * Performs a rapid appraisal of a patient's immediate stability and respond as necessary to insure the well-being of the patient as necessary. * Transport patients to other departments on monitors, as appropriate and requested. * Assists RN's and Physicians with physical exams, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: electrocardiogram testing (EKG); wound cleansing and irrigation; initial, repeat and orthostatic vital sign measurements; application of monitor leads, specimen collection, and transports stable telemetry or non-monitored patients to nursing units. * Document all care/procedures provided. * Recognizes work priorities and responds; accordingly, anticipating the needs of the department. * After training and where state statue permits, performs blood glucose testing; phlebotomy; saline lock insertion; IV discontinuation; bladder catheterization and removal. * Monitors supply stock levels and reports needs. Notifies environmental services (EVS), maintenance, biomedical engineering, and others to ensure proper equipment and a safe environment is maintained. * Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience: N/A Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross License: Must meet one of the following; * Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (If CNA must apply for LNA within 7 days and obtain LNA within 30 days of hire. Must complete IV Training within 90-days of hire) * Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) * Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Position uses problem solving skills and ability to effectively communication with patients, patients families, interdisciplinary and ancillary departments within the organization. Preferences Education: N/A Experience: Phlebotomy experience Certification: N/A License: N/A Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: N/A Special Position Requirements Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals Work Requirements * Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. * Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills. * Able to manage technical business equipment i.e., phone, fax, computer etc. * Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs. * Able to care for patients with infectious diseases. * Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day; Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day; Able to walk for 3-5 hours day. * Incumbent must be able to: distinguish appropriate colors * Capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: This job description applies to all KHI facilities and is representative of the essential job duties this position will perform.
