The Learning Commons invites students to apply for the Peer Educator position as a Peer Tutor or SI Leader. Peer Educators assist students with academic support in identified courses and are assigned one or more roles based on experiences and needs. A SI Leader is embedded in the class and facilitates weekly study sessions outside of class. Peer Tutors engage appointment"‘based sessions with a student or group of students for a specific class. Embedded Tutors engage in class activities while also providing drop"‘in tutoring outside of class. Drop"‘In Tutors are available by subject to support students who may drop"‘in without an appointment (Math Pathways and STEM Pals positions). Responsibilities Provide academic assistance in the form of Peer Tutoring or Supplemental Instruction in identified courses. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills, to continue to grow cultural competence, and reflection skills. Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students' diverse cultures, languages, skills, and experiences. Work in a collaborative and interactive learning process with the students: using facilitating techniques, collaborative learning techniques, active listening skills, questioning strategies as the primary method to understand student needs, prior knowledge, skills, and monitor progress. Guide student participation, evaluate student performance, and provide appropriate feedback and encouragement. Provide strategies on how to learn through study strategies (i.e., time management, note"‘taking, textbook reading, test taking). Maintain neat, up"‘to"‘date, accurate and complete records, and help to maintain an orderly work environment. Recognize primary role to help students learn and become more confident, more successful, self"‘directed learners. Assist Lead Coordinator and SI Coordinator with outreach and marketing of program through campus events and mediums. Assist Coordinators with recruitment of future Peer Educators.
