Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I, the Senior Accounting Officer (specialist) performs a variety of professional accounting functions of average complexity while participating in formal training and gaining hands"‘on, on"‘the"‘job experience. The incumbent learns, interprets, and applies State accounting principles, practices, procedures, statutes, and policies, including Governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the State Administrative Manual (SAM), and State Controller's Office (SCO) requirements. Through the use of the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), the Accountant Trainee supports the department's financial operations by assisting with accurate accounting, compliance, and the maintenance of fiscal integrity while developing a strong foundation in public"‘sector accounting.
