OverviewCome join our team as a part-time Library Clerk I in the Library Services Department!Currently, there is one part-time position available at the Central Library.Selection ComponentsApplication Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, or until 150 applications are received, whichever occurs first. Apply immediately as the recruitment may close at any time.Online Exam: The most qualified applicants will be invited to take an online exam. Tentatively scheduled for the week of May 4, 2026. Applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies at the Central Library, Balboa, Corona del Mar and Mariners branches.Career PathThis position is part of the part-time Library Clerk Series which includes: Library Clerk I, Library Clerk II and Senior Library Clerk.ScheduleThis position works a flexible schedule of up to 19 hours per week and will include days, nights and weekends based on the needs of the Library.Please see the online job description for a detailed description of essential duties and qualifications.QualificationsExperience: No experience is required, but previous experience in a customer service setting and/or clerical experience is preferred.Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.NotesCandidate screening: Candidates deemed most qualified, as reflected in their application materials, will be invited to continue in the recruitment process. The prospective candidate must successfully complete a thorough background review, including fingerprinting by the Newport Beach Police Department. The resulting report of conviction history will be evaluated along with other information received.
