About East Bay Community Law Center East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) is a non"‘profit legal services organization and the community"‘based clinical program for U.C. Berkeley Law School. With about 50 staff, 120 law students a year, and a nearly $7.5"¯million annual budget, EBCLC is the largest provider of free legal services in Alameda County, delivering holistic legal services to over 4,000 clients annually while engaging in legislative and policy advocacy at the state and local level. Position Description The Finance Manager plays an integral role in supporting the organization's overall financial management and operations, with responsibility for the following core functions: Managing day"‘to"‘day financial and accounting activities, overseeing outsourced bookkeeping staff and payables processing. Performing month"‘end and quarter"‘end closing activities, including preparing government contract invoices and supporting documentation, reconciling balance sheet and bank accounts, and assessing the completeness and accuracy of financial records. Supporting the Director of Finance & Administration with the annual audit and 990 preparation, budget imports, reporting, and projects to improve accuracy, transparency, and efficiency of financial operations. Ensuring compliance with GAAP and EBCLC's internal policies, and maintaining high ethical standards. Primary Responsibilities Manage EBCLC's accounting activity, including transactional accounting (payables, receivables, payroll), oversight of internal controls, and regular reconciliations and reporting. Oversee and provide guidance to outsourced accounting staff, ensuring accurate and timely work and proper documentation. Review ledger entries for accuracy and GAAP compliance. Process accounts payables, cash disbursements, and bank deposits; prepare checks and distribute payments. Maintain client"‘fund trust records in accordance with the State Bar of California. Act as primary contact with stakeholders to resolve financial transaction issues. Reconcile business credit card matters and prepare invoices for government contracts. Provide financial reports for funders and prepare consolidations of bank, balance sheet, contribution, and payroll accounts. Manage regulatory and government reporting requirements, including business licenses, sales/use tax, 1099 filing, and related vendor records. Document and disseminate financial policies and procedures, updating them as needed. Recommend and implement system improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency. Collaborate with the Director of Finance & Administration on month"‘end, quarter"‘end, and year"‘end close activities, and on budgeting for upload to the accounting software. Support annual audit preparation and fieldwork (late August to mid"‘October) and federal and state tax filings. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Salary and Benefits Annualized hourly rate of $42.31"¯-"¯$48.35 based on relevant experience, equivalent to approximately $77,000"¯-"¯$88,000. The standard workday is 7"¯hours, with a 35"‘hour workweek. Workplace Expectations and Physical Requirements EBCLC operates a hybrid model. The Finance Manager is expected to work on"‘site at least one day per week in the Berkeley office and travel as needed for meetings. The organization supplies equipment to support remote work. Physical requirements include extended sitting, repetitive typing, use of a computer and mouse, and handling documents. This position is part of the bargaining unit. Minimum Qualifications Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience, including at least one (1) year of nonprofit accounting. Proficiency in basic and intermediate nonprofit accounting functions. Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables. Knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with FASB guidelines. Experience with advanced accounting software such as Sage Intacct or NetSuite and credit card/expense platforms like Ramp. High accuracy in financial data preparation and entry. Strong analytical, problem"‘solving, and troubleshooting abilities. Organizational skills to prioritize multiple projects and tasks efficiently. Commitment to confidentiality regarding financial and personnel information. Ability to build supportive, positive relationships with stakeholders, staff, consultants, and board members through strong communication and customer service.
