This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an experienced Civil/Geotechnical Engineer for our Tucson, AZ office. Be involved in projects with our US Mine Waste Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a part of a regional team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects. Your Impact Working within our Mine Waste team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry with opportunities to work on projects in other industries Performing engineering tasks such as: Site and material characterization Facility design including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations. Slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses. Surface water management facility design and analysis Preparing portions of technical reports that document field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assisting with laying out installations, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and other systems that are made or supported by soil or rock, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos. Assisting with the preparation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates Conduct geotechnical engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design, issue, and/or to plan for future needs. Performing domestic and international field assignments, such as geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or an equivalent field of study. 4+ years of relevant post education experience. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or the ability to complete the exam within 6 months of start date. Strong analytical skills including the ability to complete engineering calculations and analyses. Ability to work both independently and on teams. Comfortable working in remote settings. Participating in and promoting a safety-first culture. Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally. Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Civil, or Geotechnical, Engineering or relevant discipline preferred. Engineer in Training Certification.
