Turtle Back Zoo Hospital Technician The Turtle Back Zoo is looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual to join its Animal Wellness Center. This part-time role is essential for ensuring all hospitalized and quarantine patients receive appropriate care during their stay at the hospital. The successful candidate will be passionate, positive and professional and need to have the skills and competency to perform basic animal care duties in assigned areas, while maintaining the animal wellness center. Maintain the organization and functionality of the Animal Wellness Center, ensuring a clean, well-stocked and efficient workspace at all times. May be required to lift and cary up to 75 lbs at times. * Examples of duties include all aspects of daily animal husbandry and maintenance including safely cleaning, feeding, watering, training and enriching animals. * Closely monitoring welfare measures and health, * Medicating under veterinary supervision, record keeping, * Play a key role in the guest experience at the Animal Wellness Center by providing information, directing guests, and ensuring a positive and educational viewing environment during veterinary procedures. Requires knowledge of audio visual and closed-circuit camera equipment. * Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. * Perform other administrative duties and special projects as assigned. Experience Required * Minimum of one (2) yeara experience working with a diverse collection of exotic animals at an AZA zoo. Includes experience in all aspects of husbandry, as well as a working knowledge of diseases, behavior, breeding, and feeding characteristics of various species. Some veterinary experience is preferred, but not necessary. This is not a veterinary technician position. NOTE: Satisfactory completion of six (6) semester hours of credit in graduate level marine biology, marine science, or ichthyology or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the above experience. An ideal candidate will have • A good animal sense and ability to pick up on nuanced behavioral changes in the animals under their care. - Excellent organizational and time-management skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, guests, and external partners. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. • A genuine interest in and respect for animals and wildlife conservation. • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. • Flexibility to work up to 30 hours per week, may include some weekends and holidays as needed.
