Duties may include janitorial work, cleaning of buildings and grounds, landscape care, and occasional heavy lifting of 100 lbs. Scope of Responsibility:This position is responsible for the quality and accuracy of his/her work, as well as any equipment they may use. Primary Responsibilities Maintain facility groundsOperate both riding and push mowers, as well as weed trimmers to maintain turfInspect equipment on a daily basis prior to operation to ensure proper fuel levels, tire pressure, and overall condition are conducive to safe operation; reports broken parts and malfunctioning equipment to supervisor as needed.Drive light truck & trailer loaded with equipment to remote sitesPick up trash/debris from water/wastewater propertiesPull/spray weedsMaintain trees & shrubberyLight pruningReplace mulchInstall paversWaterHelp maintenance staff maintain and repair automated sprinkler systemMaintain facility buildingsClean restrooms - toilets, sinks, shower areas, etc.Mop restrooms, hallways, and other areas as neededDust, vacuum, and clean as neededAssist plant staff in light maintenanceAssist changing light bulbsAssist changing filters in HVAC systemAssist in general equipment maintenanceSanding, scraping, paintingPerforms all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practicesKnows and follows department and city rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or lossWears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing workWears proper clothing - long pants, protective footwear, shirt, etc.Shorts/open toed shoes/tank tops are not acceptableWhen potentially unsafe conditions are observed, make efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable, and notify the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner.Performs other duties and activities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications This position requires a high school diploma or its equivalent (G.E.D.). A valid driver's license is required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:General knowledge of turf maintenanceGeneral knowledge of mechanical equipment maintenance activitiesBasic knowledge of herbicides and proper handling of hazardous materialsSkill in performing minor maintenance functionsSkill in the proper operation of turf care equipmentAbility to communicate effectively and have good customer service skillsAbility to work cooperatively as a team member and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Physical Demands Most work is performed outdoors, weather permitting. Work is generally very heavy and involves operating riding and push mowers. Work is performed in all weather conditions. Incumbent is required to take appropriate safety precautions. Incumbent may have exposure to injury, trauma, angry individuals, heavy falling objects, some chemicals, loud noise, insects, fumes, dust, dirt, and adverse road and weather conditions. Work is often in or near streets and power lines. Incumbent spends a part of each day in a City truck. If unable to work outside, inside maintenance will be performed. Incumbents must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, operate equipment (mowers/trimmers) for extended periods, and occasionally lift, push, or pull, up to 100 pounds. Frequently lift, push or pull, up to 50 pounds, and regularly move objects up to 20 pounds. Strong attention to detail is required.Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, digital dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions.Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Some requirements in this job description may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of themselves or other employees.
