This role will partner closely with executive leadership and operations to ensure accurate project financials, strong internal controls, and scalable processes that support continued growth.The Construction Controller will oversee project accounting from open through closeout, manage a small accounting team, and serve as the primary liaison for auditors and external financial partners.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & ReportingOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, job costing, and financial reportingPrepare and present timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements to executive leadershipDevelop and maintain financial controls, policies, and proceduresProject Accounting & Job CostingManage the full lifecycle of project accounting, including project setup, maintenance, and closeoutOversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and ensure accurate revenue recognitionMonitor Construction-in-Progress (CIP) schedules and job cost trackingPartner with project managers to review budgets, forecasts, and cost performanceTeam ManagementLead, mentor, and develop a small accounting teamEstablish clear roles, workflows, and accountability within the teamSupport hiring and scaling of the accounting function as the company growsAudit & ComplianceCoordinate and lead external audit processes, including preparation of schedules and documentationEnsure compliance with GAAP and construction-specific accounting standardsMaintain relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutionsCash Flow & Financial PlanningOversee cash flow management, including forecasting and working capital optimizationMonitor project billings, collections, and subcontractor paymentsSupport executive leadership with financial planning and strategic decision-makingProcess Improvement & SystemsEvaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting toolsImplement scalable solutions to support company growth and increased project volumeDrive efficiency in project setup, billing, and closeout processesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)5-10+ years of accounting experience, with significant experience in construction or job-cost accountingStrong knowledge of WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and CIP reportingExperience working with external auditors and managing audit processesProven ability to manage and develop a teamProficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, or similar)Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsInterested in hearing more?
