Performs data entry of medical information requests received through mail, fax, or approved electronic means, per HIM department procedure and all applicable state and federal regulations governing release of patient records .. Manages electronic work queue and/or incoming hard copy requests; demonstrates ability to operate desktop scanner .. Adheres to applicable YNHHS policy, HIPAA regulations, Federal, and Connecticut statutes as pertains to releasing patient protected health information. Participates in continuing education to maintain knowledge . Seeks clarification from department leaders as needed .. Demonstrates competency in evaluating completed authorizations for required elements prior to entering requests in the ROI tracking system. Can accurately explain to requestors the requirements and remedies necessary for incomplete requests. Generates system-based rejection letters as needed ..
