General Farm/Ranch labor - Salmon at University of Idaho in Salmon, Idaho, United States Job Description Hours per Week: 40 hours per week. Work includes weekend rotation with other ranch hands. May be required to work more than 40 hours per week when necessary. Position Type: Seasonal summer through January 1st with opportunity for full-time work. Essential Functions: Primary job function involves general ranch chores and assisting with irrigation which may include monitoring and moving irrigation K-lines, hand lines, wheel lines and pivots. Position requires manual labor using hand tools/equipment or operating a variety of farm equipment to irrigate a variety of crops and grass pastures. Other duties may include building and repair fences; daily health checks on cattle; assisting with feeding and moving cattle; haul dirt or hay using heavy equipment; load/unload trucks and other equipment; and operating hand and power tools for weed control or landscaping. Requirements: Knowledge of a variety of farm labor and maintenance tasks including irrigation, equipment operation, basic construction and standard safety practices. Ability to record and provide basic accounting for trucks or equipment. Ability to operate a wide range of farm equipment and hand and power tools; work outdoors in adverse conditions for extended periods of time; establish effective working relationships with coworkers and managers; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; assume responsibility for department safety standards; ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 80 pounds. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness and ability to work outside in all weather conditions and to work regular hours.
