The Security Chief is a non-uniformed position who reports directly to the Interim Deputy Chief Financial/Operating Officer - Nevada and Director of Security & Emergency Response through the Senior Vice President of Planning & Operations. The Security Chief is responsible for supervising the security Lieutenants and Sergeants, and for providing a safe and secure campus that enhances a quality learning environment for employees, students, and guests. The Security Chief ensures the physical security of campus property and equipment through adherence to department procedures and policies. The Security Chief is responsible for ensuring all security personnel are properly trained and able to perform their duties to the best of their abilities to ensure a safe campus at all times. Manages, supervises, assigns, and evaluates security Sergeants and Lieutenants. Ensures supervisors perform required job activities and responsibilities. These include:Evaluating, counseling and mentoring subordinates and shift personnelOversee and monitor training for new employeesConduct performance evaluations and mentor security officers as neededSupervise progressive disciplinary action up to and including terminationConducts interviewsPlans daily assignments and conducts daily shift change briefingsAssess operational and equipment needs2. Manage shift operations to ensure that the campus is a safe and secure environmentDelegate tasks to appropriate personnel, inform the Interim Deputy Chief Financial/Operating Officer - Nevada and Director of Security & Emergency Response of potential problems / issues, and recommends possible solutionsManages the access control, video surveillance and visitor managements systemsManages the patrolling, inspecting, and securing of premisesManages emergency operation for incidents on campusCoordinates with first responders (police / fire / EMS / etc) and provides emergency assistance as neededReviews Security Officer Daily Logs and reports any issues to the Interim Deputy Chief Financial/Operating Officer and Director of Security & Emergency ResponseManages parking enforcement of all University operated parking lots4. Prepares, reviews and catalogs written incident reportsResponding, compiling, and reporting all information regarding theft, alarms, accidents, and other incidents that may occur5. Reports all building utility/service issues, as observed, to the Facilities Department6. Monitors alarms/panels for emergencies that might arise7. Serves as a member of the University Security Committee, University Behavioral Intervention Team, and University Crisis Management Team8. Responsible for immediately reporting any issues regarding University vehicles operated by the Security Department or other University personnel to the Director of Facilities9. Responsible for developing and monitoring master keys/box and vehicle keys10. Responsible to ensure vehicle log sheets are properly completed11. Supervise and maintain all facets of Emergency Preparedness, ensuring updated and accurate documentation of the Business Continuity and Emergency Action Plans12. Assists in the preparation of the Annual Safety Report, creation and dissemination of emergency notifications and timely warnings, and maintains campus crime logs in accordance with The Cleary Act.13. Assist in the production of campus vulnerability assessments and grant applications14. Recommend security-related capital budget projects to increase the safety of the campus15. Liaise with local law enforcement to obtain intelligence on crime patterns, community events, and incidents which would otherwise cause disruptions to the daily operations of the campus16. Establish external relationships to provide training to security team and campus community17.
