Diesel Shop Manager The diesel shop manager will oversees the operations of a diesel repair facility or department, ensuring that diesel technicians and staff maintain, service, and repair diesel engines and related systems efficiently and safely. This role combines technical knowledge, leadership, and administrative duties Job Duties Manage and supervise diesel mechanics and technicians. Schedule shifts, assign tasks, and monitor performance. Provide training, mentorship, and evaluations Ensure timely and quality repairs of diesel trucks, buses, or equipment. Review and approve work orders and repair estimates. Assist with complex diagnostics and troubleshooting if needed. Manage budgets, invoices, and expense tracking. Keep records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Ensure compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, or other industry standards Key Skills Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulics, etc. Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively. Prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and maintain accurate documentation. Clearly communicate with team members, vendors, and customers. Quickly diagnose and resolve issues, both technical and operational. Use of fleet management software, spreadsheets, and service ticketing systems. Requirements High school diploma or GED minimum 3-7 years of hands-on experience as a diesel technician. Prior leadership experience is often required ASE Diesel Certifications Able to lift heavy parts, stand for long periods, work in noisy environments. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and shop safety best practices.
