Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Responsibilities VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This Supervisor DRT (CT) position is assigned to the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, Radiology Service, Magnetic Resonance section with the Lee County VA Healthcare Center, Cape Coral, FL. This is a general medical and surgical facility, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education. Duties and responsibilities of the Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) include but are not limited to: Assigns, manages, and directs the work of subordinate technologists when examinations and/or procedures require assistance; directs all section schedules in a manner to optimize workflow while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases, rearranging patients to accommodate these requests. Prioritize scheduled patients as well as the ability to accommodate the emergency patient. Reviews work in progress, or upon completion, to ascertain problems and takes required corrective action. Ensures all procedures and general operations are performed to meet The Joint Commission Standards. Provides instruction and solutions to difficult problems that arise in the section(s). Give guidance in expeditious flow of productivity in all section(s). Responsible for management of Human Resource aspects of service operations, including hiring and disciplinary action, Labor/Management relations, performance appraisals, and professional boarding procedures for Technologists. Responsible for resource management and distribution, assessing staffing levels and needs, space planning, and assessing equipment and technology needs along with corresponding requests for needed resources. Develops and maintains a weekly rotational technologist schedule to ensure fair and equal assignments of the technologists and their duties. Determines staffing requirements based on past, present, and future workload patterns and develops the weekly/monthly work schedules. Organizes staff work assignments, including lunch and break rotations. Reports absences and tardiness to Chief Technologist: recommends the reassignment of techs, if necessary, because of call-ins or increased/decreased workload. Initiates recommendations to higher authorities on changes to increase productivity, revise staffing, assure cost efficiency and improve morale. Prepares meeting agendas and hold routine meetings with staff to communicate changes and expectations for each section under their supervision. Directs interaction is expected to ensure new processes and procedures are implemented and all employees can comply and conform to the direction. Formulates plans, delegates authority and follow-up on delegated tasks to assure effectiveness of assignments given to subordinate lead and staff technologists. Provides instruction and solutions to difficult problems that arise in the section(s). Gives guidance in expeditious flow of productivity in all section(s). Orients all newly hired technical staff to the Radiology Service Staff, Policies/Procedures, and all responsible equipment, as wells as ensure all technical skills are evaluated when initially assigned to a specific section. Ensures the training new technologists in all imaging aspects under their direction including specialized cases. Recommends, coordinates, and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols. Instructs other technologists on specialized tasks and new/modified procedures and policies and ensures their compliance and understanding. Ensures policies are communicated to all staff and safety practices are always utilized. Establishes and monitors employee's performance and is responsible for providing input for rating each employee at the end of each rating period and determining competency throughout the year. Provides information to employees concerning management goals and objectives and provides higher-level supervisors with timely feedback on employee's participation and concerns. Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both technical and administrative matters; resolves complaints to higher-level supervisor. Collaborates with the Chief Technologist in formulating and implementing administrative and operational policies/procedures for assigned sections.
