The future of Electric Boat submarine propulsion plant construction is happening now on the COLUMBIA program. Fabrication of pipe assemblies and major modules has begun and major propulsion plant components are being delivered. Components and systems testing has started and will grow rapidly in the very near future. Become a Propulsion Plant Fluids engineer within one of our Design Yard, Construction Yard, Manuals and Test Procedure, or Test Gear Drawing groups to deliver the COLUMBIA Class submarines to the Navy. You will use the Electric Boat TeamCenter/NX IPDE tool that was developed for COLUMBIA, and also being used on VPM, SSW, and SSNX. Lead ship design and construction support is a once-in-a-class opportunity that comes with unique challenges, including a first-of-a-kind Electric-Drive propulsion plant.Department 485 - S1B Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems is seeking highly motivated engineers to work with a wide range of experienced engineers in design, construction support, test, and delivery of COLUMBIA Class reactor plant and steam plant fluid systems.The candidate will be relied on to interface with all customers and including QP and Groton Trades and Test Departments, NQC, vendors, Naval Nuclear Laboratory, Reactor Plant Contractor’s Office, local Naval Reactors Representative’s Office, Ship’s Force, and NAVSEA. D485 engineer responsibilities include:Troubleshooting and problem solvingDeveloping engineering dispositions including: Engineering Reports, Change Requests/Change Notices (CR/CN) and test inspection reports (TIRs)/UNSATsDisposition of vendor information requests (VIRs)Operating Procedures and Test Procedures support and leadershipSteam and Electric Plant Manual, Reactor Plant Manual, Ship’s System Manual, and component technical manual product development and maintenanceTest gear drawing development and maintenanceTest procedure development and maintenanceConstruction surveillance of fluid systemsReactor Plant and Steam Plant Cleanliness issue resolution and approvalNew Construction Nuclear Construction and Repair (NCR) notices development, approval, and executionPropulsion Plant engineers are responsible for integrated plant operation and equipment including piping, valves, filters, heat exchangers, pumps, turbines, electrical interfaces, and special devices.All work is performed in accordance with company core values, standards of technical performance, and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant Principles.Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for assigned work with a team of employees. This position requires work within the team to execute varied projects for current and future COLUMBIA Class design efforts, design changes, and system improvement tasking. This position requires strong communication, time management, technical, and project management skills.The position requires frequent interface with NAVSEA, BMPC/NNL, Naval Reactors, EB Shipyard, and COLUMBIA Program Office. Candidate will be responsible for completing and tracking work, developing technical guidance and direction, and maintaining required training. The candidate is responsible for the group's compliance with the department's Technical Product Quality (TPQ) program, all applicable department instructions, technical directives, company policies and procedures.Candidates should be willing and physically able to climb steep stairs and ladders, ascend/descend scaffolding and access confined spaces within a submarine.Required:Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Marine, Civil, Chemical or an equivalent engineering degree5-9 years of relevant experiencePreferred:Advanced engineering degreeExperience with fluid systems and componentsVIRGINIA Class or COLUMBIA Class construction or Major Submarine Overhaul experienceReactor Plant Cleanliness qualifiedSteam Plant Cleanliness qualifiedPropulsion Plant Trained (S9G or other)Experience with the TeamCenter/NX IPDE toolStrong interpersonal, organization, oral, and written communication skillsDetail orientatedHighly motivatedStrong leadership skills with past or current experienceReading and developing diagrams/schematics and construction drawingsClimbing, Crawling, KneelingInside, Outside
