Find out why Parkside is where you belong.Position Title: Assistant Professor of Criminal JusticeEmployment Type: Full Time, 9-month, Exempt, Faculty AppointmentReports To: The Chair of the Criminal Justice Department Full-Time Pay Range: Commensurate with experienceThe University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for full-time (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice with a specialization in Criminal Law. The successful candidate will have a primary appointment and tenure home in the Criminal Justice Department, which is ranked first (number one) by the Correctional Officers Organization for supporting careers in criminal justice and corrections and will teach and mentor undergraduate students, engage in scholarly research, and participate in university and professional service. The department seeks candidates who can teach courses in Criminal Law and Procedural Law, as well as courses dealing with the law's application to Criminal Justice and Social Services agencies.Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, evidence of scholarly productivity, and a clear research agenda. The department is committed to its strong relationship with community partners through its Community-Based Learning and Internship opportunities and will give preference to candidates with experience in these pedagogical practices.The position requires teaching (4-4 teaching load, 24 credits per year), research, and service responsibilities. Opportunities to teach in UW-Parkside's Master of Arts in Applied Professional Studies and additional courses in the summer semester may be available for additional compensation depending upon the needs of the Department. QUALIFICATIONS: Require QualificationsPh.D. in Criminal Justice or related field, Juris Doctor's with experience in Social/Human services will also be considered. (ABD candidates who are expected to complete their degree by August 2025 will also be considered);Demonstrated potential for high-quality instruction of courses in Criminal Justice with expertise in applying the law to Criminal Justice agencies;Demonstrated potential for providing instruction in online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face formats;Experience working with students and staff from culturally diverse backgrounds;Demonstrated potential for effective service to the institution, leadership in the discipline, and engagement with the community; and, Commitment to scholarship. Preferred Qualifications:Juris Doctor (JD) degree.Evidence of high-quality instruction of undergraduate criminal justice courseswith expertise in applying the law to Criminal Justice agencies.Experience designing and implementing learning experiences that integrate community engagement within the curriculum.Evidence ofproviding instruction in online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face formats.Evidence of coordinating community-based learning terest in advising and mentoring undergraduate students.Potential for (and/or record of) securing extramural funding. RESPONSIBILITIES: Key Job ResponsibilitiesTeach 24 credits (4/4 workload) per academic year (with the exception of designated release and/or reassignment time);Teach undergraduate criminal justice courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online modalities (some online courses are offered in accelerated 7-week formats);Design and implement curriculum that aligns with student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, and general education learning outcomes and assist in departmental assessment reporting;Participate in, and contribute to curriculum development by planning, developing, and evaluating new and existing courses and curricula;Maintain a high-quality research agenda with the expectation of peer-reviewed publication;Participate in department/division meetings, committees, and other activities; andProvide service to the university, community, and the relevant academic discipline profession; service can include advising student organizations.
