We are seeking a SUE Crew Chief position to join our growing Geospatial/ SUE Division in Chicago, IL. This is an excellent opportunity to join a company with outstanding benefits and have future career growth.This position requires candidates to be physically able to operate and maneuver truck equipment and the various tools utilized for underground utility exploration, designation and survey locations. Must be extremely safety conscious and possess a strong work ethic. Candidate must be able to follow company procedures and policy when performing both SUE and survey duties. Day to day operations may require that most of the day be spent performing SUE activities while performing as needed survey activities collecting the SUE field data. The ability to multitask is an important aspect of this position in order to maintain workflow. If you think you are an innovative, self-motivated team-player, and want to shape your community, join our WGI team today!WGI offers a complete Benefits package including: Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD & STD, Life Insurance, 401k with match, PTO, Holidays, HSA with company contribution, Pet insurance, and Employee assistance program.Supervisory:Acts as a crew leader working with multiple field crews and supervises SUE staff as needed to complete projects safe, on schedule and within directed scope of work by Project managers or Project Engineers/SurveyorsDirects SUE tasks in the fieldLeads tailgate safety meetings and develops site specific Job Hazard AnalysisDevelops and implements Maintenance of Traffic signage at each siteCommunicates with clients and utility representativesCoordinates with SUE, Survey and CADD staff for SUE related tasksPerforms QA/QC on designated utilities and test holesLeads field investigationsTrains lower level SUE technicians on proper designating and test hole techniquesField:Secures equipment and guard against loss and theftReads and interprets roadway plans, as-builts and utility company markups recordsLeads field investigationsDesignates all utilities, including complex telecommunications, cable tv, gas, electric, water, traffic control, and any other utilities encountered in the fieldCapably uses multi-frequency pipe and cable locators and single frequency induction devices (Metrotech 810, RD5000, Pipehorn)Operates the GPR proficientlyTroubleshoots issues with designating equipment/able to make basic repairs (fixing leads)Adheres to safety standards, including proper operation of both electronic and mechanical equipmentMaintains truck and electronic equipment on a daily basis, including but not limited to fluid levels, filters and pneumatic/hand toolsSkilled at using air lance to expose utilities in varying soil conditions and depthsUses and maintains concrete saw properlyJackhammer usage on varying pavement typesUnderstands proper tamping procedures and can correctly patch asphalt and concreteDrives the designating vehicle and vacuum excavation truckUnderstands the vac truck operation and can troubleshoot and perform minor repairsMaintains equipment and keeps crew's assigned vehicle cleanFills out the field book legiblyCompletes field sketchesRecords information for test holesRecords pole dataSurvey experience a plusMaintains and operates a total station and/or GPS Unit, including the data collector associated with this survey equipmentFollows WGI survey procedures for checking into established survey control when field locating SUE evidence. Utilize the standard feature coding descriptions when collecting point and line features associated with SUE designations and test holesOffice:Completes QL-D lineworkSubmits One Call ticketsAssists with proposal preparation and take-offsAssists Project Manager as neededDownloads and emails data files, photographs, and field notes to the home office for processing each dayEffectively communicates with the other parties involved on a project to ensure all SUE markings have been adequately surveyed and accounted for in order to minimize reworkHigh School Diploma or GED required4-5+ years of experience with SUE, utility designating and test holesValid Driver's license and clean MVR requiredFull understanding of ASCE's SUE Quality levelsSupervisory experienceCapable of working independentlyMust be able to pass DOT physical with the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within 60 daysAbility to pass drug screenAbility to lift 50 poundsPhysically able to operate heavy tools such as jack hammers and pogo tampersMust enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather conditionsAble to walk for long periods of time over all types of terrainMust be able to travel for up to 2 weeks at a timeTechnically and mechanically inclinedComputer savvy and able to operate advanced softwareUnderstands physics and advanced utility designating theoryHigher than average problem-solving abilitiesGood visual-spatial abilitiesBasic math skillsGood writing and reading comprehension skillsTraining (in addition to standard employee training):PowerSafe preferredE-RailSafe preferredOther region-specific credentials preferredCertifications:OSHA 10-hour preferredOSHA 30-hour preferredDOT Driver's Qualification preferredCoalition for Construction Safety certification preferredFirst Aid/CPR Certification preferredApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.
