STRUCTURES PRACTICE LEAD POSITION SUMMARY Spicer Group is seeking a Structures Practice Lead to join our Development & Buildings division. This Structures Practice Lead will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of vertical structure-related projects, ensuring quality, adherence to deadlines, and budget compliance. Vertical structures may include steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures. This role manages overall practice utilization and financial performance, supports quality management initiatives, and mitigates project risks. The Structures Practice Lead prepares and assists with invoicing, contributes to proposal development and contract negotiations, and may serve as Project Manager or subject matter expert on key projects, including large multidisciplinary efforts. Additionally, the position involves strategic planning and communication, aligning with company leadership and participating in marketing initiatives. The Structures Practice Lead fosters strong client and partner relationships, promotes industry engagement, and markets the practice’s expertise through various channels. They also oversee the performance, development, and mentoring of technical staff within the practice area, ensuring high standards of service delivery and professional growth. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees project deliverables within the Structures Practice of Development & Buildings service area, ensuring high-quality execution and adherence to deadlines and budgets Management of overall utilization and realization of Structures practice Supports and contributes to structures practice area financial performance Supports quality management strategy; identifies and mitigates risk Supports and contributes to Development & Buildings service area and Structures engineering utilization budgeting Prepares and assists with invoicing and collection of A/R for technical service area clients Provides input for proposal “Go/No Go” decisions; if pursued, contribute technical write-ups, scope, and fees Participates in contract negotiations and interviews when proposals are won Provides input on proposals, staffing, and budgeting Compiles project teams and pursues vetted work obtained through regional client development relationships Serves as Project Manager or subject matter expert on multiple projects within the structures practice area; may serve as Project Manager on large multidisciplinary projects Partners cross-functionally with Practice Leads from other service areas to complete work Writes professional service agreements by request Oversee the design and analysis of vertical structures and buildings, including concrete, steel, timber, and masonry structures, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, codes, and regulations May assist with structural calculations and prepare detailed design documents, including drawings and specifications Utilize structural design software and tools to support design efforts and produce accurate models Aligns with leadership team on company goals and vision Participates in relevant strategic planning committees Establishes effective communications throughout the structures technical service area Participates in developing and administering structures marketing Supports key client and partner relationships within structures service area per regional strategic plans Engages in industry initiatives within technical service area that are aligned with regional strategic plans Markets expertise through articles, awards, speaking opportunities, presentations, etc., at industry conferences, publications, and associations Participates in client maintenance plans as directed by regional staff Manages technical practice area employees through partnering with Development & Buildings Director and Transportation Director on performance quality and management, attendance, hiring within the technical practice area, training and mentoring, technical professional development, and the completion of annual performance reviews PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or related field 10+ years of relevant work experience within the vertical structures industry, including in-depth experience in steel and/or concrete structures. Experience with timber and masonry structures is also recommended. Experience managing complex projects with multiple design packages, fast tracked projects, phased construction, and coordinating with a team of multiple stakeholders Previous project and client management experience on multiple projects of similar size, scope, and complexity Project Management Professional (PMP) certification; preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office Proficiency with industry-standard BIM software like Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD; experience creating, managing, and utilizing 3D and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models Experience in Bluebeam Revu, SharePoint, MS Project or other PMIS POSITION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in related business field Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state Related professional certification(s) or qualifications Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present ideas and gain consensus from senior leadership Ability to travel as needed for company leadership meetings and project related work DELIVERABLES Meeting service line revenue goals Client satisfaction New client development Client revenue growth year-over-year Cross-selling technical service areas to existing clients A/R collection and reduction of aging receivables Retention rate of key regional staff Satisfactory annual quantity of successful cross-regional or cross-service projects or initiatives executed FOR MORE INFORMATION For more information regarding our firm and/or this position, please visit the Spicer Group website at .
