Position Information Position Title Emergency Medical Technician Instructor (Continuous Adjunct Pool) Position Description POSITION SUMMARY:This is a POOL position. Application materials for this part-time position are accepted on an on-going basis. As openings for temporary, part-time emergency medical technician instructors become available, candidates may be selected from this pool of applicants. The EMT instructor position includes teaching a variety of courses within the program. The assignment, as determined by the District, may consist of day, evening, and weekend hours including 12-hour shifts.The EMT program at Citrus is a rigorous and uncompromising program of study. The program is approved by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) and Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS). The program is taught by the program director, and a number of highly qualified paramedic and EMT field providers with many years of experience and advanced degrees.Students entering Citrus College EMT program will immediately benefit from state-of-the-art equipment. Citrus has invested over a million dollars in MEDI manikins, SIMS 3G technologies, 12 lead EKG machines defibrillators, etc., and are used throughout the program. Required Qualifications STATE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :— Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.— Possession of any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.OR— Possession of a California Community College LIFE Credential in the appropriate discipline.PROGRAM MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor (current) AND currently licensed in California as Paramedic OR Physician’s Assistant OR Possess a current certification as Paramedic OR Physician’s Assistant OR Possess a current certification in California as a Registered Nurse with Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN)AND- Two years of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or pre-hospital care in the last five years.AND- Experience with at least forty (40) hours of documented teaching methodology instruction in areas related to methods, materials and evaluation of instruction. Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Prior approval(s) from the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services to teach the EMT program. FLSA Exempt Department Health Sciences Department Administration If "Other" please specify Job Category Assignment Percentage of Time NA Months per Year NA Work Days per Week To be determined by the District Work Schedule per Day To be determined by the District Work Shift Essential Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Maintain professional and ethical academic standards set by the program and the District.- Provide class and clinical instruction in accordance with established course outlines, program expectations, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.- Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and student records and submit them in accordance with published deadlines.- Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations according to curriculum standards set by the District, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.- Involve technology in the learning process when appropriate.- Teach students with diverse backgrounds.- Participate actively in staff development and professional growth programs.- Participate in recruitment activities.- Meet obligations with regard to grade reporting, scheduled classes, required office hours, and other directions provided by the Director of Health Sciences.- Engage actively in all aspects of program design, implementation, and evaluation.- Perform other professional duties as assigned.
