Animal Laboratory Specialist I-(T229519)DescriptionThe University of Alabama at Birmingham Temp Services is seeking a Animal Laboratory Specialist to:Prepare and distribute all enrichment for a variety of species including nonhuman primates, pigs, rabbits and ferretsRotates novel enrichment devicesDevelops comprehensive monthly enrichment calendars and submits them for review and implementationProvides covered species with human interactive enrichmentMaintains inventory of produce Prepares daily produceMaintain inventory of enrichment devicesBasic understanding of species-specific behaviorProvides ferrets with exercise/playtimeRotates rabbits onto floor and provides them with extra enrichment and possibly cleaning these runs if necessaryPrepares non-human primate enclosures and ensures the addition of clean enrichment following enclosure sanitation.Designs, constructs and/or assembles enrichment devices for all species in conjunction with behavioristMeet with veterinarian and Welfare/Behavior manager periodicallyBehavior scoring such as alopecia and behavioral observationsActively stays informed on the latest trends and advancements in enrichment to ensure the highest quality of care and engagementUtilize video analysis to review and assess primate behavior as neededHourly Pay Rate: $15.50QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.Must be able to follow detailed instructions and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and care.Strong interest in animal care and research support.Ability to lift/move equipment and perform physically active duties throughout the day.Willingness to learn and pursue AALAS certificationPrimary Location:Temporary ServicesJob Category:UAB Temporary ServicesOrganization:114402000 Temporary ServicesEmployee Status:TemporaryShift:Day/1st ShiftEqual Opportunity Statement:UAB is an Equal Employment/Equal Educational Opportunity Institution dedicated to providing equal opportunities and equal access to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, ethnic or national origin, sex (including pregnancy), genetic information, age, disability, and veteran’s status.
