Job Description

Hearst Connecticut Media Group’s journalists cover communities all over the state, serving readers across platforms, including our sites like , app, newsletters, social media accounts and more for nine daily and 21 weekly newspapers.We’re looking for an enterprising, audience-focused and collaborative Senior Editor of Audience who will be responsible for helping the newsroom teams build content programs and in-depth projects that grow digital subscriptions and deepen subscriber loyalty. This role will help steer the newsroom’s online publishing cadence in the short and long-term.This is a new leadership role that’s critical to our newsroom’s success.Duties and responsibilities:Communicates quickly and effectively with editors and reporters to ensure we have excellent editorial planning, including weekly tentpole initiatives and projects for publicationSupports audience growth for local news and key topics by establishing programming and best practices for each teamDemonstrates a high comfort level with analyzing and interpreting metrics and uses them to inform coverage decisions in real-time and the long-termDevelops the talents of staffers, offering constructive criticism of their work. Coordinates with managers in other newsrooms and non-editorial departments on projectsFills in as needed for other leaders on the audience teamQualifications:Demonstrated experience managing newsroom personnel and producing high-quality audience journalism across digital platformsBachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or related field preferredDemonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environmentHighly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasksAbility to speak a second language like Spanish a plusAbility to mentor editors and journalists of all skill levelsUnderstanding of social media landscape and SEO, as well as audience data analysisCommand of newsroom standards and principlesOur Benefits:At Hearst Newspapers we not only support our employees through personal and professional development, but we also believe in promoting each individual’s physical, financial and emotional wellbeing (and that of their family).
