In this role, you’ll work with different types of equipment on a regular basis and support a wide range of construction and maintenance projects that keep our operations running safely and efficiently. Essential Job Functions Operates a wheel-type tractor with attachments for plowing, discing, harrowing, dragging, scraping, and packing ground for lawns, plants, shrubs and trees, and for irrigation and recreational purposes.Drives a truck and trailer combination unit used in hauling tractors and other equipment to and from work sites.Operates hydraulically actuated and tractor-powered attachments such as a loading bucket, backhoe, rotovator, hammer-knife, rotary mower, and auger for clearing land, loading debris and trash, grading, digging holes and trenches, and may use the tractor for demolishing small structures.Performs routine maintenance work on the tractor and attachments; makes minor repairs and adjustments as necessary.Operates wheeled or small tracked self-propelled equipment other than tractors used on certain work assignments.Drives a tractor on a public highway to and from areas where work is to be performed.Performs the tasks shown above; operates a wheel-type tractor with attachments to rake and sanitize the beaches; and relocates portable lifeguard towers.For additional information, please view the classification specification: Utility Tractor Operator Requirements REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of wheel-type tractors AND hydraulically actuated and tractor-powered attachments.DRIVER LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. A valid California Class A or Class B Driver License, and special endorsements to drive assigned vehicles may be required for some positions in this class. For positions that require driving, successful applicants must acquire and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not submit their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Additional points will be given to applicants who possess the following:Class B - California Commercial Driver LicenseClass A - California Commercial Driver LicenseAdditional years of experience as mentioned in Requirements.Credit will only be given for California Commercial Driver Licenses with no Air Brake Restriction (L).PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate:This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stopping, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:Maintenance refers to tasks ensuring safety and operational efficiency of equipment. Additional Information EVALUATION CRITERIA:This examination will consist of a Training & Experience Assessment which will evaluate experience and licenses listed on the Supplemental Questionnaire, and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This evaluation is worth 100% of the total score. Applicants MUST meet the requirements AND achieve the passing score of 70% or higher to be placed on the eligible list.ELIGIBILITY & VACANCY INFORMATION:Candidates receiving a passing score will be placed on a list in the order of the score group for a period of 12 months.
