Posting Number SP004279P Position Title Industrial Hygiene Specialist Division/College DFA Operations Department Environmental Health and Safety Location Moscow Posting Context Statement Reporting to the Industrial Hygienist, this position provides comprehensiveenvironmental health and safety services to the university community in the areas of industrialhygiene and lab safety. Position Overview Under the general supervision of the Industrial Hygienist and the Executive Director of EHS, the Industrial Hygiene Specialist is responsible for administering the university’s asbestos program and lead program and assisting in other industrial hygiene and laboratory safety programs. This position also entails managing the respiratory protection and medical surveillance program.This position may be required to respond to university emergencies outside of standard scheduled work hours. Unit URL Position Qualifications Required Experience Three years in the areas of industrial hygiene including but not limited to: laboratory safety oversight respiratory protection programming asbestos and/or lead paint management and abatement medical surveillance Required Education High School Diploma or equivalent Required Other Certification as an AHERA Building Inspector, or ability to obtain this certification within six months of being hired Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the university’s driving requirements Must live within 15 miles of the University of Idaho or be willing to relocate to within 15 miles of the university within six months after original hire for the purpose of emergency response Additional Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in industrial hygiene, life sciences, chemistry, or related field Experience: Interpreting building plans and schematics Preparing technical reports in a work-related setting Testing laboratory safety equipment, or experience using similar equipment and processes Developing and delivering training in subject matter related to the duties of this position Developing, evaluating and recommending procedures, written training materials and manuals Working in a university or research institution Knowledge of: Asbestos abatement regulations and procedures Lead-based paint abatement regulations and procedures Managing the different components of medical surveillance and respiratory protection programs, including respirator selection, use, care, and fit-testing Industrial and/or laboratory ventilation equipment and processes Personal protective equipment associated with the abatement of asbestos and lead-based paint materials Industrial hygiene rules, regulations and policies Laboratory safety rules, regulations and guidelines Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Must be able to: Work with hazardous substances Lift, carry or otherwise move heavy materials weighing 50 pounds Participate in a medical surveillance program Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment including respirators and SCBAs Degree Requirement N/A: No degree requirement Posting Information FLSA Status Non-Exempt Employee Category Classified Pay Range $24.77 per hour or higher depending on education and experience Type of Appointment Fiscal Year FTE 1 Full Time/Part Time Full Time Funding A visa sponsorship is available for the position listed in this vacancy.
