Overview The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for ensuring the overall upkeep, cleanliness, and safety of our building. This position focuses on performing light repairs and routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, replacing knobs, and handling basic handyman duties. The Maintenance Assistant will also be responsible for ensuring that both the interior and exterior of the facility remain in good condition and in compliance with local Health Department codes and safety regulations. This includes seasonal tasks such as snow removal, sidewalk clearing, and occasional support with donation pickups. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.u2022 Perform light repairs and general building maintenance (e.g., door knobs, handles, cabinet hardware).u2022 Replace lightbulbs, ceiling tiles, batteries (smoke detectors), and filters as needed.u2022 Assist in upkeep and organization of building fixtures and equipment.u2022 Perform periodic walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance needs.u2022 Coordinate larger repair needs with corps officers and external vendors.u2022 Maintain records of repairs and maintenance tasks completed.u2022 Assist with seasonal or special projects, such as weatherproofing.u2022 Daily responsibility for the maintenance and order of the interior building.u2022 General maintenance and upkeep of the outdoor surrounding areas of the building.u2022 Daily responsibility for the maintenance and cleanliness of the grounds, surrounding the corps properties including the parking lots, walkways, lawns dumpster area, etc.u2022 Assist in providing direction to community service workers and maintenance volunteers.u2022 Maintain order and organization in the storage and loading/unloading areas.u2022 Assist in the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of corps vehicles.u2022 Utilize Salvation Army vehicle to pick up donations, supplies, and equipment as needed.u2022 Load, transport, and unload food items from local Food Bank to Corps, referencing invoice to validate stock requirements.u2022 Assist in the acquisition, organization and distribution of donated and purchased food for corps programs.u2022 Set up, organize, and clean up equipment for special events.u2022 Responsible for seasonal upkeep of exterior areas, including clearing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots during the winter months to ensure safe access for staff and visitors.u2022 Assume seasonal full-time status (Christmas) for assistance with kettles and holiday programming and distribution. This includes driving bellringers to their kettle locations as well as carting pertinent items needed at each location.u2022 Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors. Qualifications u2022 High School Diploma or equivalent.u2022 Basic handyman experience and skills.u2022 Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.u2022 Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for long periods of time.u2022 Must understand and support The Salvation Armyu2019s mission as a church and a social services organization.
