They will use their experience in transportation operations to manage personnel and drive efficient transportation operations through the associates they lead, ensuring the safe, accurate and timely daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers within the organization. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES u2022 Lead with a safety mindset that ensures that every US Foods associate, our customers, and the general public with whom our drivers interact remain injury free, always. Champion safety procedures, processes and training to create and maintain a safety-first culture in the Transportation department. u2022 Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through one-on-one coaching, training on policy and procedures, assisting in problem resolution when required, and leading by example. Ensure all drivers and other Transportation department associates are appropriately trained in job duties as well as safety and legal responsibilities. u2022 Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates by discussing performance with Sr. Transportation Managers and creating plans to address gaps. u2022 Create an atmosphere in which upward communication is encouraged, and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives. u2022 Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates within the Transportation department. Drive associate engagement and retention, and create a culture that embodies US Foods values. u2022 Build high-performing teams by participating in interviewing and hiring Transportation personnel, in conjunction with Sr. Transportation Managers. Review performance, coach on service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action. u2022 Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error attitude to ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction. Anticipate, analyze and troubleshoot problems with deliveries and devise cost-effective and legal solutions; act to implement same. Ensure team understands and adheres to DOT regulations. u2022 Identify and stop waste, and improve processes to complete work more safely and efficiently. u2022 Conduct routine Safety and Driver Meetings. Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files. u2022 Investigate all accidents, maintain an accident file, track causes and take appropriate preventative action. u2022 Effectively schedule working shifts by leveraging appropriate planning tools (i.e., Microsoft Excel) u2022 Other duties assigned by manager. SUPERVISION: u2022 Direct: Union and/or non-union Drivers RELATIONSHIPS u2022 Internal: Transportation leaders and coworkers; Drivers; Warehouse leaders; Internal customers across departments (e.g., Sales) u2022 External: Customers WORK ENVIRONMENT u2022 May spend significant amount of time on the road. Must spend portion of working time in a truck with drivers, exposed to noise and vibration levels which may be higher than those typically experienced in passenger cars. Will spend time in an office working on a computer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Related Experience/Requirements: u2022 Minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution required. u2022 Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce required. u2022 Experience as a driver a plus. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: u2022 Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods and procedures. u2022 Strong leadership, communication and people development skills. u2022 Strong understanding of DOT requirements. Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements. u2022 Ability to interpret financial and operational data. u2022 Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office). Travel: u202210% travel required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training. u200b Education/Training: u2022 High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: u2022 Must be able to perform the following physical activities for described length of time: 1 (Drive Vehicle: Van, pallet jack) 2 (Push/Pull: Hand truck, dolly, product) 3 (Climb/Balance: In/out of trucks) 4 (Grasp Objects: Pens, telephone, paper, computer mouse, boxes, hand truck handle/control, dolly handle, steering wheel) 5 (Manipulate Objects: Paper files, spread sheets, boxes of product, hand truck/dolly gear shift) 6 (Manual Dexterity: Typing, use of office machines such as copiers, printers) Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law (for example: state minimum wage thresholds).
