Motor Pool Mechanic - Facilities, Planning, and Management -240000021X Description Motor Pool Mechanic (Facilities Services Trades Specialist 1 - MR04) Facilities, Planning, and Management University of Tennessee at Chattanooga The Motor Pool Mechanic maintains a safe, clean, and reliable fleet of vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, low speed vehicles (LSV) (electric and gas)) for use by faculty, staff, and students. The mechanic operates the shop in compliance with applicable environmental requirements, including control of waste products and underground gasoline storage tank (UST). Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains 80+ vehicles (gasoline and diesel - cars, trucks and vans) and 50+ low speed vehicles (gas and electric - GEM, Club Car, E-Ride, mowers and gators) campus wide Performs routine service on vehicles including but not limited to oil changes, fluids, wipers, minor repairs, battery testing and replacement, tire repairs, and coordinates vendor estimates/repairs on and off campus Maintains and services on-site car wash Cleans, preps, refuels rental vehicles Completes trip safety inspections Performs monthly mileage reports and inspections of university owned vehicles Performs Underground Storage Tank (UST) inspections, maintenance, record keeping, and on campus emergency response Helps campus customers with fueling university owned vehicles Coordinates repairs on the tank and fuel pump as needed Performs researching, ordering, and picking up parts for stock use and equipment repairs Schedules pick up and return of vehicles to campus departments for service and repairs Completes maintenance/service records, including billing tickets, forward receipts/invoices for payment Receives fuel shipments and new vehicles Applies plates, decals, etc. to new vehicles Prepares vehicles for surplus auction (cleaning, pictures, descriptions) and may assist with emergency vehicle coordination after hours (towing and/or retrieval) Provides excellent customer service to all campus departments, employees, and students Performs other duties as assigned The ideal candidate will possess the following: Skills to use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment Skill and ability to drive and operate a wide variety of vehicles Ability to diagnose safety, performance, and reliability problems on a wide variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment Ability to use those diagnosis to maintain and make necessary repairs to campus vehicles and equipment Ability to follow fiscal policy on procurement and vehicle usage Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel Knowledge of gasoline engine mechanics Review of applications will begin October 8, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.Applications received bythis datewill receive priority consideration. Minimum Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma and one year of experience repairing vehicles and motorized equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Five years of experience repairing vehicles and motorized equipment; additional mechanic training/certificates (ASE, EPA, CDL, AGT); UST Certification; experience with fuel and/or vehicle management software are preferred.
