Job Description

Overview The Communications Technician 3 is responsible for the Installation, Planning, Organizing and Scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders, including assigning tasks, assuring the work is being installed in a high-quality manner and performing quality inspections. This position will be responsible for monitoring task completion, compliance issues, and preventing safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. In this position, you will be required to have a proficient understanding & knowledge of Telecommunication Systems including OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) Fiber Optic & Structured Cabling. Additionally, each technician must make every effort to become a qualified BICSI Technician. Core Market Sector: The candidate being considered must have hands-on experience & knowledge in the installation of Low-Voltage specialty contracting industries, solution-driven initiatives & overall leadership to field-project teams. This candidate will be responsible for supporting complex scopes specific to Healthcare, Government, Higher-Education, Federal Aviation (Preferred) & Mission Critical industries. Responsibilities Position Requirements: + Required to have extensive field-experience specific to the Installation, Termination & Testing of Structured Cabling Plants within Commercial Construction industries. + Previous working experience in Terminating, Testing & Troubleshooting of Horizontal Copper (Cat 5, Cat 6). + Extensive Understanding of Installation, Inspection, Termination, Testing and Troubleshooting of ISP/OSP Telecommunications Systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5,6, 6A, & Associated Equipment) Including: + Various pathways and Cable Tray + Various Cabinet and Racks. + Various Telecommunications Devices + Prefabricated Components and Assemblies. + Telecommunications Grounding Systems + Ability to lead & supervise a team of 6-10, with the ability to operate independently while supporting a Communications Superintendent. + Required to have a full set of Tools obtained prior to the first day of employment as needed to perform the position. + Knowledge within the following Terminations of the fowling Fiber & Cable listed below: + Anaerobic + Unicam + Fusion Splicing + Riser Cable + Horizontal Cable + Successful experience partnering with diverse types of Connectors, Terminations & Pin Configurations. + Proficient knowledge in different color codes & strong familiarity with TIA & EIA Standards. + Ability to label & test Horizonal Cable as required for the position. + Clear understanding & installation experience within the following telecommunications systems (Locally & Globally) including: + Video & Data Cabling + Fiber Optic & Structured Cabling + OSP & ISP Copper + CCTV + Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) + Patch Panels + Ability to successfully install one or more of the following systems including Backbone & Riser Cable (Copper & Fiber), Plywood & Racks, Cable Trays (TC, MDF & IDF), OSP & ISP, along with Site Grounding. Position Responsibilities: + Responsible for leading project teams on small, moderately complex telecommunications installation & maintenance projects. + Oversight & lead Junior employees in the Installation, Termination & Testing of diverse structured & fiber optic cabling specific to new-build commercial construction industries. + Daily on-site presence with ability to pull cable 100 Pair or smaller as necessary without assistance. + Ensure all daily toolbox talks are conducted & documented once completed. + Conducts all inspections, evaluations & tracking of inventory as required throughout the project life cycle. + Responsible for reading & understanding all plans, specifications & blueprints throughout each phase of the project. + Provide mentorship to junior apprentices & technicians on-site to ensure continuous growth & technical knowledge of employees. + Responsible for terminating various manufactures of copper termination blocks, with a strong understanding of how improper installation can affect quality testing efforts. + Utilize & consistently reference BICSI Guidelines for proper installation & termination procedures as required. + Ability to lead & conduct the termination of cable on Patch Panels & Jacks at Work Area Outlet. + Executes daily development of additional Field-Employees, along with actively supervision Apprentices & Junior Communications Technicians on the project-team. + Facilitates & leads a team to install cable from TRs to WAOu2019s while adhering to construction drawings. + Run lists to ensure cables are installed appropriately & arranged in proper bundles at the TR for ease of dressing & termination. + Perform Quality Assurance (QA) checks on the teamsu2019 performance to ensure the cable installation is within compliance & safety requirements. Qualifications Education, Experience & Technical Qualifications: u00b7 High School Diploma OR GED required. u00b7 Must be 18 years of age with reliable transportation daily to & from the appointed jobsite. u00b7 Minimum 6+ years of experience in related Telecommunications experience specific to the oversight & installation of OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) Fiber Optic & Structured Cabling within diverse construction industries. u00b7 Minimum 5+ years of experience & established knowledge in complex markets including Federal & Government Facilities, Healthcare/Hospitals, Commercial Buildings & Mission Critical Facilities. u00b7 Required knowledge of specific Telecommunications functions including the self-perform installation, inspections, terminations & evaluations of all systems being installed. + Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications. u00b7 Strong communications, time management and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives. u00b7 Consistently report to work on time, work well with others to accomplish a common goal and maintain a safe work environment. u00b7 Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders by six (6) inches. These are not provided by the Company. u00b7 Provide basic tools from the provided tool list prior to 1 st day of employment. u00b7 Ability to obtain a security clearance if required for the project. Desired Qualifications: u00b7 Active Security Clearance u00b7 Valid Passport and willingness to travel overseas. u00b7 BICSI Credentials to include Technician. u00b7 Manufacture Certifications and/or Fiber Certification. u00b7 Experience with Microsoft Office Applications. Physical Abilities Required: u00b7 Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period. u00b7 Relocates a 12-Foot stepladder without assistance. u00b7 Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders. u00b7 Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis. u00b7 Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English. u00b7 May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools. u00b7 Update project-team when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong; It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. u00b7 Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. u00b7 Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). u00b7 See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). u00b7 Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
