DescriptionAmazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Key job responsibilities This is a unique opportunity to assist in the development of a global broadband communication system. As a Regulatory Engineer, you will: u2022 Work on complex regulatory projects dealing with satellite and spectrum regulations. u2022 Collaborate with a global team of public policy and legal experts to develop regulatory and policy advocacy strategies. u2022 Partner with the global licensing team to develop satellite and earth station license applications, and produce technical analyses in support of those applications. u2022 Develop detailed analysis and simulation products and strategies to enable Amazon Leou2019s use of radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbits. u2022 Work closely with satellite and system design teams to conduct system design trade studies, and to ensure the Amazon Leo technology and regulatory roadmaps are aligned. The ideal candidate has foundational knowledge of communications satellite architectures, link budgets, and orbital dynamics and the ITU Radio Regulations and U.S. satellite regulations. Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate solutions to complex technical problems. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. About the team The Global Regulatory Affairs team is responsible for enabling and protecting Amazon Leou2019s use of radio frequency spectrum throughout the world. The Regulatory Analysis and Systems Engineering Team uses a data driven approach to develop strategies for regulatory and policy advocacy, and to guide the Amazon Leo systemu2019s use of RF spectrum. The Regulatory Analysis and Systems Engineering Team analyzes Amazon Leo system performance, including how it is affected by RF interference, and works in close collaboration with Amazon Leo design teams to optimize the satellite architecture and meet its regulatory obligations. Basic Qualificationsu2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in science, engineering, math or related discipline, or equivalent work experience u2022 Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills u2022 Strong project management skills u2022 2+ years of experience in satellite communications, telecommunications, and/or radio frequency managementPreferred Qualificationsu2022 5+ years experience performing data or system analysis using Python and/or Matlab. u2022 5+ years experience analyzing satellite communications systems in non-geostationary orbit. u2022 5+ years experience developing link budgets, analyzing the potential for harmful interference, and optimizing RF system performance. u2022 Experience in the application of the international Radio Regulations and U.S. satellite regulations. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market.
