Job Description

Under the supervision of the Working Supervisor and reporting to theFleet Manager performs skilled repair and maintenance of motorequipment; inspects and troubleshoots gasoline and diesel internalcombustion engine-powered vehicles and other engine-powered equipment;does tune-ups; repairs electrical systems; adjusts brakes and clutches;adjusts or replaces carburetors; does front-end work such as wheelalignment; removes and replaces clutches and transmissions; removes anddisassembles diesel and gasoline engines; replaces faulty or work parts;grinds valves; performs engine overhauls; performs auto body work andrelated welding and metal working duties. May also perform preventivemaintenance tasks such as lubrication and replacing oil filters andother similar duties. Also performs skilled repair of diesel equipment;troubleshoots diesel equipment to determine repairs; maintains andrepairs diesel engines on trucks, heavy construction equipment, andother diesel powered equipment; repairs ignition, fuel, and electricalsystems. May supervise a small crew of workers at a lower skill levelsuch as laborers, helpers, and maintenance workers. Perform other, andrelated duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a currentand valid Commercial Driver?s License Classification B. Must present avalid Department of Transportation medical certificate. Must possess asatisfactory driving record. o Candidates must also provide, uponinterview, a copy of their unattested driving record, obtainable at theRMV and dated within the previous six months. Candidates may need toregister with the FMCSA Commercial Driver?s License Drug and AlcoholClearinghouse Allcandidates will participate in an on-road driving assessment as part ofthe interview process. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 2 years?experience in automotive mechanical work requiring heavy and light dutyequipment and diagnosis repair. Advanced iPad and computer skillsrequired. Internal applicants must have a permanent civil service status. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: All labor positions, skilled, semi-skilled, andunskilled in the Cambridge Department of Public Works require acombination of: Lifting between 25-100 pounds, proper bending,squatting, stretching, pushing, climbing, dragging, and pulling.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform the essential functions.
