Job Description THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A FLAT DAILY RATE OF $398.86. THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CANDIDATES WHO ARE PERMANENT (NOT PROVISIONAL) IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF CARPENTER. The Administration for Childrenu2019s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. About the Division: The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout ACS to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support to carry out their missions. The Division of Administration (Admin) employs approximately 463 public employees. Admin manages a Personnel Services (PS) Budget of approximately $29M and an Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) Budget of $140M. Services include real estate, facilities and custodial management, construction, occupational safety, operations, security, transportation, and more. The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) seeks qualified applicants for the position of Carpenter to play a critical role in the Office of Real Estate, Design + Construction Facilities Management. Currently, the Office of Real Estate, Design + Construction Facilities Management, within the Division of Administration, manages building repairs, maintenance, and capital upgrades for a variety of programmatic facilities within ACS' purview across various field/office locations throughout the five boroughs of NYC. Under the general supervision of the Deputy Executive Director of Construction Management, the Carpenter performs installation and repair work involving rough, finish, and general carpentry. - Install, repair, and replace flooring, partitions, window frames and sashes, door frames and doors, drop ceilings, metal wall framing, and other related components of buildings and structures, including boardwalks, fences, and screens. - Build and repair toolboxes, movable and fixed sashes, doors, wooden office furniture, playground, park, and school equipment. - Build and rebuild truck cabs. - Use and operate both hand and powered woodworking equipment. -Construct and repair various types of fire ladders; work from plans and sketches; keep job and other records. - Supervise assigned personnel and may operate a motor vehicle. - All Carpenters perform related work as required. Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions Carpenters may be required to: - Lift and carry building materials weighing up to approximately 80 pounds. - Climb and descend ladders and scaffolds. - Work in hot areas such as boiler rooms. - Work in confined spaces. - Stand upright for extended periods of time. - Work in noisy and dusty areas. - Use electric-powered shop equipment and power-driven electrical hand tools and machinery. - Wear OSHA-approved dust masks, safety goggles, work boots, and work gloves. Additional Duties A Carpenter also: - Works on wood and metal stick framing, sheathing, shielding, and layouts. - Prepares footings, forms, and panels for concrete work. - Determines materials, labor, equipment, and safety gear necessary for the job. - Fabricates forms, frames, and special shapes using hand tools, power tools, and machinery. - Works from plans and sketches. - Keeps job and other records. - May supervise assigned personnel.
