Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: u2022 Promotes best practice in respiratory care through the application of evidence based respiratory protocols that involve patient assessment, recommendation, education, intervention and communication with the health care team and within the State of Hawaii Respiratory Licensing Program scope of practice. u2022 Provides a broad spectrum of clinical procedures and monitoring for patients in the Intensive Care Units, Emergency Department, Operating Room, Special Procedure areas, inpatient and outpatient areas and all other areas as assigned. u2022 Supports operations, program expansion, performance improvement and research. II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: u2022 Essential: standing, walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, squatting, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; assists in lifting usual weight of up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling weight up to 50 pounds; carrying usual weight of up to 40 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions; static gripping of an object for prolonged period; frequent gripping of an object. u2022 Occasional: sitting. u2022 Operates ventilators, specialty gas delivery systems, treatment equipment, blood gas analyzers, syringes, computer, and copier III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: u2022 Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. u2022 Subjected to noise/vibration from ventilator alarms, mechanical percussors. u2022 Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, and nebulized medications. u2022 Exposure to floor spills. u2022 Exposure to irate patients. IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: u2022 Current Hawaii State license as a Respiratory Therapist. u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred. u2022 Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). u2022 Current CPR certification at the Health Care Professional (BLS) level and Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS). u2022 Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. If not certified upon hire, must obtain within six (6) months of entrance into position. As of July 24, 2022, existing Respiratory Therapists must obtain certification by January 24, 2023 as a condition of employment. u2022 Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
