The Senior Network Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of the organization’s network infrastructure. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex network solutions that meet evolving business and operational needs.As an experienced member of the IT Operations Team, the Senior Network Engineer serves as a technical expert and escalation point for network issues. The role involves deep expertise and hands-on work across routing, switching, firewalls, and emerging technologies such as SD-WAN and network automation, and may also serve as a technical lead for a small team of Network Engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and work direction as needed. This positioncollaborates closely with peers across infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver integrated, resilient, and scalable network services. This position also contributes to continuous improvement efforts, documentation, and project execution, helping to ensure that the network environment supports the organization’s mission and growth.Designs, implements, and supports complex network infrastructure solutions to ensure high availability, performance, and security across all organizational locations.Serves as a technical escalation point for advanced network issues, providing expert-level troubleshooting and resolution.Monitors and analyzes network performance, identifying opportunities for optimization and proactively addressing potential issues.Provides technical leadership and mentorship to network and infrastructure team members, elevating skillsets and reinforcing engineering best practices.May serve as a technical lead and supervise a small team of engineers.Collaborates with IT Leadership and cross-functional IT teams—including voice, server, and security—to deliver integrated and secure infrastructure solutions.Leads, and is responsible for, the design, development, validation, and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans related to network infrastructure.Engineers and maintains network redundancy, failover, and load balancing to support high availability and minimize downtime.Champions and implements automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual tasks. Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, standards, and procedures.Participates in infrastructure projects as lead networking SME, providing technical leadership and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.Supports the evaluation and implementation of new networking technologies and tools.Leads, manages, and participates in after-hours support and on-call rotations to ensure continuous 24/7 network reliability.Travels by air and/or ground transportation to Partnership locations as needed to support local network installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with departmental and organizational priorities.Education and ExperienceAssociate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field desired; Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Minimum 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in network engineering or administration within a Cisco-centric environment. Strong hands-on experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and support complex network infrastructure, including voice-integrated environments. Minimum 3-5 years of experience with network segmentation, firewall administration (e.g., Cisco ASA), and load balancing technologies. Experience with SD-WAN solutions (e.g., Silver Peak or equivalent) in a production environment. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and network automation tools or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible) is highly desirable. Solid understanding of telco coordination, including provisioning, troubleshooting, and vendor engagement. Proven ability to lead technical projects, contribute to documentation, and support junior team members. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills in a collaborative IT environment.Special Skills, Licenses and CertificationsCisco CCNA certification is strongly desired. Additional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, ITIL Foundation, or vendor-specific SDWAN and firewall certifications are a plus. Advanced knowledge of Cisco networking technologies, including routing, switching, and firewall platforms. Proficiency with routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and network segmentation strategies. Experience with SD-WAN, load balancing, and firewall administration (e.g., Cisco ASA, Firepower). Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and network automation using tools such as Python, Ansible, or similar.Strong understanding of network monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting methodologies. Working knowledge of telco coordination, including provisioning and vendor engagement.Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
