Job Description The Director of Hospital Coding is responsible for leading and managing hospital coding operations within the health system, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Coding. This role ensures coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, revenue integrity, and operational efficiency for inpatient and outpatient hospital services. The Director will oversee coding teams, collaborate with clinical, financial, and IT stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in coding processes. Qualifications Qualifications u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Masteru2019s preferred). + CCS and/or CPC required u2022 Minimum 5u20137 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital coding operations. u2022 Deep understanding of hospital coding and coding workflows, regulations, and technologies. u2022 Experience with Epic or other major EHR systems preferred. u2022 Strong analytical, communication, and change management skills. Preferred Skills u2022 Experience leading coding operations in a multi-entity or academic health system. u2022 Familiarity with risk adjustment, HCC coding and value-based care models. u2022 Proven success in implementing coding automation platforms. u2022 Ability to synthesize data and present actionable insights to senior leadership. Responsibilities Operational Leadership u2022 Direct daily operations of hospital coding teams for inpatient and outpatient services. u2022 Oversee coding workflows, audit response, and corrective action planning. u2022 Monitor and manage performance metrics including DNFB (Discharged Not Final Billed), coding productivity, and denial rates. u2022 Ensure timely and accurate submission of hospital claims. Compliance & Quality u2022 Ensure adherence to payer-specific guidelines, CMS, OIG, and other regulatory requirements. u2022 Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations and requirements. u2022 Lead internal and external coding audits and implement quality improvement plans. Technology & Process Improvement u2022 Support implementation and optimization of coding technology solutions, including EHR integration. u2022 Collaborate with IT and coding teams to enhance documentation and coding integration. u2022 Evaluate and deploy automation solutions to improve coding efficiency. Vendor & Stakeholder Management u2022 Manage relationships with outsourced coding vendors and ensure SLA compliance. u2022 Partner with CDI, compliance, revenue cycle, and clinical departments to align coding practices. u2022 Provide regular updates to the Senior Director of Coding and executive leadership on coding performance and strategic initiatives.
