This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage. DEPARTMENT: Municipal Attorney - Criminal Division HOURS OF WORK: Saturday - Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall; 632 W 6th Avenue Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. Example of Duties Serve as receptionist for the Criminal Division, Department of Law. Receive and process incoming calls, take verbatim messages as necessary. Assist and respond to requests from individuals who appear in person at the office. Receive, sort, date stamp, distribute, and provide for the initial distribution of all incoming mail and municipal documents. Maintain staff reporting and tracking log to monitor staff whereabouts. Forward faxes, emails, phone calls, and messages to attorneys/staff. Copying/scanning as requested. Order supplies as needed. Stock supply room. Maintain a witness fee checking account. Preform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years of clerical or office experience, one (1) year of which must have been in a legal or law enforcement environment. All applicants must possess and/or complete: + u00b7 Typing test at a net speed of 35 WPM at time of application NOTE: In order to be considered, official certification of 35 WPM (current within the past one (1) year) MUST be attached to the application. Documentation or certification results must clearly indicate the applicant's name and date the test was taken. + Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire. + If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security clearance and access at time of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these clearances and accesses within the specified timeline, they will be terminated. + Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) certification within one (1) month of hire. If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment as well as a financial review. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) certification and Tiburon clearance within 30 days of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these within 30 days of hire, they will be terminated. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment. Military Service Interview Preference : Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individualu2019s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
