Security Officer- San Diego Humane Society- El CajonStart Date: 03FEB2026Full and Part Time:1st Shift: Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-18:00Position OverviewWe are seeking professional, service-oriented Security Officers to support San Diego Humane Society locations. This is a highly visible, customer-facing assignment. The Security Officer is often the first point of contact for visitors and is expected to provide a welcoming presence while maintaining a safe, orderly environment for staff, visitors, volunteers, and animals. Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain a professional security presence to deter theft, vandalism, disturbances, and unauthorized accessProvide exceptional customer service; greet visitors and assist with directions, check-in procedures, and locating appropriate departments/servicesMonitor entrances, lobbies, and public areas; support orderly flow of visitors and appointmentsObserve, document, and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, and policy violations; complete clear written reports as requiredRespond to incidents professionally using de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniquesCoordinate with site leadership and, when necessary, contact law enforcement or emergency servicesConduct routine patrols of assigned areas (interior/exterior as applicable)Follow site-specific safety procedures related to animals (restricted areas, kennel protocols, visitor guidance)Required QualificationsActive California BSIS Guard Card (required)Strong customer service skills and professional communicationAbility to remain calm and professional in emotionally charged situationsAbility to write clear, accurate, and complete incident reportsReliable transportation and dependable attendanceAbility to stand/walk for extended periods and perform routine patrol dutiesMust be able to pass all applicable pre-employment screening, which may include background checks and/or drug testing consistent with applicable law and client requirementsAnimal-Friendly Requirement (Special Requirement)Must be comfortable working around animals (dogs, cats, and other animals) dailyNo pet/animal allergies that would interfere with the safe performance of duties in an animal-care environment Preferred QualificationsPepper Spray certificationPrior security experience in public-facing environments (retail, healthcare, municipal facilities, customer service)Experience with de-escalation, conflict management, or access controlCPR/First Aid certification (plus) California Employment Notices (Position Requirements)This position is at-will employment in accordance with applicable California law.Employment is contingent upon meeting all licensing requirements for the position and successfully completing any required onboarding, training, and client/site authorization prior to assignment.We comply with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, including California wage and hour requirements.
