Job Summary:Assigned to the Construction organization as the Project Field Superintendent. Responsible for the organization, process/procedures, and direction of Construction Field Engineering and support staff. The Project Field Superintendent reports directly to the Construction Site Manager and is responsible for all Field Engineering activities for the project. #LI-LM1Major Responsibilities: Manages all field engineering processes, procedures, and organizational structure to ensure compliance with project, code, and corporate requirements, in coordination with the Construction Site Manager. Performs or delegates personnel evaluations and ensures field engineering and support staff development aligns with organizational and individual career goals. Ensures procedures align with functional requirements, coordinates functional approvals, and develops site-specific procedures to ensure construction activities conform to engineering design, specifications, customer, and regulatory requirements. Develops and manages the Construction Work Package (CWP), Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), and Work Control programs to ensure timely delivery of materials, inspection records, and documentation to field personnel, in coordination with document control. Oversees the Subcontract Technical Representative program and coordinates with supervision to support short-term (4-week) and long-range (90/180/270-day) construction planning. Leads the field engineering inspection process, constructability program, and engineering/field engineering coordination, ensuring effective communication and resolution of constructability issues. Manages field changes, non-conformance processes, and trend analysis; oversees quantity reporting and establishes quality validation programs for in-progress and installed commodities. Develops and supports construction automation systems and interfaces with Engineering and Procurement to support automation, work packaging, and quantity reporting processes. Manages field-procured material processes, construction issues management (CAPs/CRs), system and area turnover with Startup, construction action item tracking, welding and survey control programs, and supports construction execution, mobilization/demobilization, temporary facilities, and temporary utilities planning. Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university and 15+ years of related professional experience, or in lieu of degree, 21+ years related experience. Must be a US citizen or have permanent residency status. (is this the correct wording?) Must possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance. Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education. Must be able to obtain a site security badge. Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces. Required Knowledge and Skills: Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment. Self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment. Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as IBC, SMACNA, ASME, NFPA, NEC, ACI, ASCE, and others. Must be highly proficient in work process development and implementation. Must be highly proficient in planning breakdown structure for and writing construction work packages to Bechtel NWPPs, SWPPs, IWPPs, or other equivalent processes. Must be proficient in cost and schedule analysis. Must be proficient in subcontract administration. Must have knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to field activities, of all engineering disciplines, and jobsite management. Must have direct hire execution experience on projects of $300M or greater. Preferred Qualifications 5 years supervisory experience. Prior experience with Nuclear Power plants, DOE, or DOD projects. Prior U.S. Government construction experience as a Project Field Engineer or Deputy Project Field Engineer. Prior Earned Value Management experience and training. Knowledge of all phases of project scoping, planning, and execution relating to the construction of multi-discipline works. Experience with, or exposure to Bechtel innovations such as the X-fighters, Smart Completions, Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), and/or DEP.
