The University of Virginia located in south-western Virginia is accepting applications for an Instructor of Criminal Justice. Faculty shall hold a full-time faculty appointment structured as follows: Instructional Appointment (Nine-Month Academic Year) Instructional duties, including (but not limited to) teaching assigned credit hours, student academic assistance, course delivery, assessment, grading, and related instructional responsibilities, shall be performed during the nine (9) month academic year, consistent with the college’s academic calendar and faculty workload policies. Advising and Program Coordination (Twelve-Month Responsibility) In addition to instructional duties, faculty shall perform student advising, online program coordination, creating, modifying, and submitting assessment data, student support, and related administrative responsibilities on a twelve (12) month basis, including during periods when classes are not in session. These responsibilities are essential to the continuous operation of an online academic program. Compensation, workload equivalency, and expectations for availability shall be administered in accordance with this blended appointment structure and consistent with college policy. Advising and coordination duties performed outside the fall and spring semesters are considered an integral component of the full-time appointment and shall not be construed as overload, supplemental, or adjunct employment. Faculty shall not be assigned additional instructional credit hours outside the nine-month academic year except by separate written agreement approved in accordance with college policy and signed by administration and the faculty. This allocation of duties does not create separate or dual appointments but reflects the integrated instructional and advisory responsibilities associated with the faculty’s role in supporting a year-round online program. Faculty shall hold an academic rank of full-time Instructor and Online Coordinator consistent with college qualifications and policies and shall be classified as full-time faculty, subject to all rights, responsibilities, and obligations applicable to similarly situated faculty members. This position shall: + Deliver asynchronous online instruction to enrolled criminal justice students. + Teach the equivalent of: + 12 credit hours in the Fall semester, and + 12 credit hours in the Spring semester, consistent with normal course rotation of required criminal justice courses and electives. + Instructional load shall be considered full-time equivalency in accordance with college policy. + Respond to student assignment submissions during twelve (12) published hours of instruction (separate from office hours); hours may be scheduled flexibly, including daytime and evenings, to accommodate student needs, while ensuring work-life balance. All instructional and office hours must be clearly posted in the course syllabus and updated as needed. + Serve as the coordinator of the online criminal justice program. + Collaborate with criminal justice faculty to evaluate and modify program policies, procedures, and curriculum. + Assist (remotely) with student recruitment as needed + Work collaboratively with in-person criminal justice faculty to support online instruction as needed. + Engage in continuous program assessment and improvement. + Develop new online courses in consultation with current criminal justice faculty and administration. + Ensure alignment with accreditation, curriculum standards, and institutional learning outcomes. + Maintain eight (8) published office hours for student support and advice; hours may be scheduled flexibly, including daytime and evenings, to accommodate student needs, while ensuring work-life balance.
