Job Title: Environmental Scientist Job Description As an Environmental Scientist, you will perform third-party EPA air emissions testing and monitoring, primarily for industrial or manufacturing sites. You will transport equipment to the site using a company vehicle, set up and break down testing equipment, record data, collect samples, and perform equipment calibrations. Your role will also involve assisting engineers in air quality testing procedures and adhering to environmental, health, and safety protocols. Additionally, you will organize and load testing equipment into vehicles for upcoming jobs, maintain and clean testing equipment, and study for and obtain certifications for EPA Test Methods 1-5 using company resources. Essential Skills + High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or Engineering is highly preferred. + Successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. + Be at least 21 years old due to DOT driving requirements. + Valid driver's license and ability to pass pre-employment motor vehicle records check, background check, and drug screen. + Frequently climb ladders of 75 feet or more. + Frequently lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds. + Moderate computer skills. + Strong written and oral communication skills. + Ability to work effectively in a team setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications + A current, valid passport is a plus. + Occasionally hoist loads up to 50 pounds by rope. + Experience in labor, industrial, test, sample, maintenance, construction, or landscaping is beneficial. Work Environment This role is based in the Lombard office and requires significant field work and travel, including some weekend work and extended travel periods of more than 7 consecutive days. Workdays typically last 8-10 hours or more in the field. The position involves frequently climbing ladders of 75 feet or higher and lifting and carrying loads up to 50 pounds. Office responsibilities include field data quality control, data entry into Excel spreadsheets, and equipment maintenance and calibration. Travel may involve driving or flying, with overnight hotel stays regularly associated with travel. Up to 90% travel is expected, with 75% of sites within 4 hours of the office, and 90% of those within 2 hours driving distance. The role operates in small teams of 2-5 members with a field team leader. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.
