Thisincludes sweet potatoes, bedding, cutting slips, transplanting slips,pulling and/or chopping weeds and harvesting with the use of mechanicalharvesting equipment, field grading sweet potatoes. This also includesforother row crops (soybeans, milo, corn, rice, cotton and wheat) pullingand/or chopping weeds. Workers must notify supervisor/employer of anymaterial issues. Workers must report any safety and/or food violationsto their supervisor immediately.Field Work: Workers will roll out and remove plastic on sweet potatobeds. Roll out cloth and remove cloth from sweet potato beds. Workerswill cut sweet potato slips, stack slips into cartons and load cartonsonto a truck. Workers will use mechanical sweet potato harvestingequipment toharvest sweet potatoes.Vegetables: Workers will bend and stoop to pick vegetables according tosize, color, shape and degree of maturity and place into fieldcontainers. Workers may be required to install and remove plastic fromrows. Workers may carry full container weighing approximately forty (40)lbs. andempty into field bin or load onto trailer. May be required to pull anddiscard culls as directed by supervisor. Pickers will take care not tobruise or scar produce. Pre-harvest activities may includetransplanting, hoeing, hand weeding, installing and removing dripirrigation and plastic, handseeding, and general ship care up to and after harvest. Workers may berequired to string plants. Workers will stand on feet for long periodsof time. Workers are required to work in fields when plants are wet withdew or rain. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range fromforty (40) to over one hundred (100) degrees.Packing House: Workers will perform various duties associated withpacking employers products. This includes grading, sorting andpackaging. Workers will flow standard work methods and practice safework habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.Workers mustfollow all standard food safety methods and practices to ensure productis handled in clean and safe manner. Workers must remove sprouts and/orstrings from sweet potatoes as they move along the line. Workers willsort potatoes according to customers specifications by removing otten, and damaged and out of specification sweet potatoes from packline. Workers will fold and stack cardboard and/or reusable plasticcontainers. All production workers are expected to be available to workin all areas of production.Irrigation: Workers will assist in set up and moving of irrigationsystemGrains and Row Crops: Workers will perform a variety of manual tasksappropriate for grain crops being planted cultivated and harvested.Workers will help in preparing the land for planting. This may includeattaching farm implements such as a plow, disc and drill to tractor. Maydrive a ractor in field to till soil in preparation of planting. Worker mayapply various types of fertilizer to the soil and plants. These bags canweigh 75 lbs. Workers may cultivate and thin crops using a hoe. Workerswill remove undesirable and excess growth, such as tassel, suckers, andweedsby hand. Carries supplies such as bags and bailing wires to the fields.Clears irrigation ditches, using shovel. Workers may husk and shellcorn. Loads and unloads trucks, unloads grain onto conveyors to storagebins or elevators. Cleans and lubricates farm machines.Farm Equipment Operation During Field Operations: Workers will berequired to operate tractors and other farm equipment during fieldoperations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Workerswill use mechanical sweet potato harvesting equipment. Before any workeris equired to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed inthe proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers must notify supervisorof any mechanical issues. Workers will be required to operate tractorsaccording to instructions and in a manner that protects the operator,other workers, trees, crops and equipment. Properly licensed workerswill operate employers equipment and vehicles on public roadways totransport tools and fellow crew member. Repeated failure to obeyoperating and safety instructions may result in termination.Sanitation Requirements: For food and general personal safety purposes,all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitarypractices at all times. This is particularly critical when handharvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required tocleanse theirhands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water after using thebathroom and before entering the fields for harvest activities. Allworkers must report all injuries and illnesses to their employer. Aswell any communicable disease such as but not limited to diarrhea, orany otherinfectious disease or illness. Workers shall report immediately any cutsor abrasions that cause open bleeding.GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL CROPS: Field work begins atassigned time usually shortly after daylight.
