Key job responsibilities The Manager of Construction is a strategically significant role on the Data Center Construction team dedicated to leading, mentoring, and coaching our team of skilled Construction Managers. You will lead a diverse and creative team solving fascinating problems constructing Amazon Data Centers. You will manage a fast-moving, intelligent team of professionals and the regional construction program delivering data center capacity to support Amazonu2019s growth in the United States and other potential sites in North America. Our Data Center Construction team owns and drives the construction life cycle from constructability, proposal development, bid analysis, award, to managing the onsite construction work. The manager will be expected to dive deep and know construction management; inspire and think big about the construction management program; and support, grow, and nurture the team delivering efficient and sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems to our Customers. The Manager of Construction will be responsible for: u2022 Hire and develop new Construction Managers. Coach, mentor, and lead a large Construction Management team. u2022 Strategic and tactical management of construction capacity delivery within their region. u2022 Communicate and provide guidance to Finance during the development and execution of capital budgets. u2022 Coordinate with various teams supporting the data center development and launch. u2022 Develop and manage metrics quantifying performance within their region. u2022 Coordinate with Business Development on land and facility acquisition. u2022 Manage the safety, cost, and quality of the data center deliverable. Additionally, should possess the following abilities: u2022 Ability to lead, motivate, and train subordinates. u2022 Ability and willingness to think creatively and build innovative solutions to reduce cost and duration with no impact on quality and reliability. u2022 Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify the project scope and present the justification to management in a high-level review. Thatu2019s why youu2019ll find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship and other career-advancing resources here to help you develop into a better-rounded professional. #DCCD_AMERBasic Qualifications- 5+ years of direct management, mentorship, leadership, and coaching of construction management or commissioning professionals experience - Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units - Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams - Bacheloru2019s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science OR 16+ years relevant overall experience in lieu of degree - 12+ years of relevant experience constructing and managing complex MEP systems, including large-scale power distribution/generation gear and cooling systems in mission-critical environments - 12+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experiencePreferred Qualifications- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA - Experience directly related to the design or construction of large data center facilities, either colocation or client owned/operated - Experience in direct management, mentorship, leadership, and coaching of construction management or commissioning professionals - Experience as a general contractor and in vendor management (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution - Experience defining data center system-level architecture, specifying/documenting performance and equipment requirements to vendors and contractors, communicating conceptual designs, and creating/maintaining project documentation before, during and after construction Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
