DescriptionAWS Infrastructure Operations is seeking an experienced Director to lead the US East (IAD) Regional Data Center Operations. Based in the Washington DC area, this role will oversee critical infrastructure that powers AWS services across one of our most complex and diverse infrastructure regions in North America. The Infrastructure Operations organization operates rapidly scaling high availability data centers supporting the AWS business across the globe. Safety, security, and availability are the most important things we deliver to our external and internal customers. We execute server and network installations, repairs, data center mechanical and electrical system operations and maintenance, physical security, and logistics operations on a 24x7 basis. The Director will be responsible for ensuring standards for operational performance in the areas of safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost of an expanding portfolio of data centers supporting the AWS business in the US East region. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence while scaling infrastructure to meet growing customer demand. Key job responsibilities u2022 Drive safety culture and security initiatives across all regional data center facilities u2022 Develop and implement operational strategies that align with our global standards while addressing regional requirements u2022 Oversee capacity planning, delivery, and growth strategies to meet customer demand u2022 Direct engineering operations across multiple infrastructure types (Colocation, Hybrid, Build-to-Suit) u2022 Manage complex multi-stakeholder coordination requirements with internal teams, vendors, and local authorities u2022 Operation and maintenance of data center mechanical, electrical, and controls systems including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, emergency maintenance, and change management u2022 Installation, repair, and decommissioning of data center hardware and network devices u2022 Lead, manage, coach, and develop data center cluster operations management teams u2022 Manage performance of key vendors such as colocation data center service providers and maintenance vendors in line with management goals u2022 Execute the Infrastructure Operations support component of new data center cluster launches, new data center launches, and existing data center expansions u2022 Propose and comply with agreed operational performance goals relating to safety, security, availability, capacity, productivity, efficiency, and cost u2022 Support the physical security safeguarding of people, assets, and customer data in data centers u2022 Manage operations budgeting and capital expenditures and operating expenses in line with management targetsBasic Qualificationsu2022 Bachelor degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field u2022 5+ years in data center operations, infrastructure management, or related technical field u2022 5+ years of people management experience leading large, diverse teams u2022 Proven track record of managing complex operational environments at scale u2022 Experience with capacity planning and infrastructure growth management u2022 Strong financial acumen with budget responsibility u2022 Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic operational plans u2022 Experience working with cross-functional teams in a global organizationPreferred Qualificationsu2022 Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field u2022 Experience with AWS infrastructure or similar cloud service provider operations u2022 Knowledge of data center design, construction, and commissioning u2022 Experience managing operations across multiple data center facilities u2022 Strong understanding of physical security protocols and compliance requirements u2022 Track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives u2022 Experience with incident management and disaster recovery planning u2022 Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
