As a Project Engineer - Mechanical at MSA, you will support the planning and design of critical municipal infrastructure including wastewater treatment facilities and pump stations and related mechanical systems. We foster a collaborative environment where curiosity, innovation, and professional growth are encouraged.This position plays an important role in delivering high-quality design solutions while supporting project execution, technical excellence, and client relationships.The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, mechanical and civil engineers, technicians, and municipal clients to deliver projects from planning and design through construction support while ensuring technical accuracy, quality, and schedule performance.Mechanical Engineering DesignSupport the planning and design of wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, and municipal pumping systemsPerform and review engineering calculations, hydraulic evaluations, and equipment sizing for mechanical systemsDevelop mechanical layouts, equipment specifications, and construction documentsAssist with the preparation of design reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory documentationCoordinate mechanical system integration with civil, electrical, and structural design teamsProject ExecutionLead assigned project tasks and technical components with minimal oversightMonitor scope, schedule, and budgets for assigned project tasks and communicate progress with project leadershipCoordinate work performed by technicians and junior staff to ensure consistency and qualityPrepare construction specifications, cost estimates, and engineering documentationSupport construction phase services including responding to contractor questions and reviewing submittalsField Work & Construction SupportConduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observationReview construction progress and verify compliance with design plans and specificationsDocument field observations and assist in resolving technical issues during constructionSupport commissioning and startup activities for mechanical systems when applicableCollaboration & Continuous ImprovementWork closely with Project Managers and internal teams to ensure project goals are achievedParticipate in client meetings and technical discussions related to project deliverablesMentor junior staff and support their professional developmentContribute to proposal development and project pursuitsIdentify opportunities to improve engineering processes, design standards, and project workflowsEducationBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited programExperience4+ years of relevant post-graduate engineering experienceExperience supporting municipal infrastructure or water/wastewater projectsExperience with engineering design software, CADD/BIM tools, and hydraulic or process modeling systems preferredSkillsStrong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and municipal infrastructure systemsExperience preparing technical reports, construction documents, and specificationsAbility to coordinate technical work across multidisciplinary project teamsStrong problem-solving, organization, and project management skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsLicensureProfessional Engineer (PE) license requiredMulti-state licensure may be required based on project assignmentsWhy MSAAt MSA, our people are our greatest asset.
