Summary of Position:u00a0u00a0After School Matters is seeking student teachers to begin working in Summer 2026.u00a0u00a0The pay rate is $20/hour.u00a0 After School Matters is seeking committed, temporary part-time student teachers tou00a0assistu00a0certified teachers in our academic programs for 15-20 high school participants (10:1, instructor: teen ratio) between the ages of 13 to 15 for Summer 2025.u00a0u00a0This program will be offered at 6 locations across the city: 1 Far South, 2 South, 1 Southwest, 1 West, 1 North/Westu00a0 Learn and Earn Career Connections allows teens the opportunity to explore a variety of career fields through hands on projects and real-world experiences AND make meaningful connections between subjects like English, math and science andu00a0theiru00a0career interests. Participants will review academic skills, connect with mentors andu00a0peersu00a0and earn money while getting a head start on learning about their career choices after graduation.u00a0 The Student Teacher (ST) is assistant to the primary leader in the classroom to ensure the academic growth of their assigned scholars by leading lessons and creating engaging activities for scholars which will support academic skill development, polish current skills, and provide small group instruction while encouraging and inspiring academic growth.u00a0 Successful applicants would be individuals who currently work with teens or young people in some capacity, that would like to expand their experience in an out of school time program and haveu00a0a strong desireu00a0to assure students learn over the summer monthsu00a0 Program Session and Schedule:u00a0The schedule for the program sessionsu00a0areu00a0as follows:u00a0 + Summer:u00a06 weeks, daily Monday through Thursday, four and a half instructional hours per day.u00a0Additionalu00a0hours are allotted for planning, professionalu00a0developmentu00a0and meetings.u00a0u00a0 + Tentative Training Dates: Juneu00a016thu00a02026- Juneu00a018thu00a02026u00a0 + Time: 10am-2pmu00a0 + Program Dates: June 22, 2026 u2013 July 31, 2026u00a0 + Time: 9:45 am u2013 2:30 pmu00a0 + Days: Monday - Thursdayu00a0 Major Duties and Responsibilities: + Assistu00a0in exposing a diverse group of teen participants to high-quality instruction while fostering a positive, safe, and collaborative atmosphere for all teen participants.u00a0 + Prepare, organize, and supervise interactive, teen-led activitiesu00a0 + Provide supervision duringu00a0teen lunch,u00a0program fieldu00a0tripsu00a0and other youth engagement opportunitiesu00a0 + Report all problems or concerns and program updates to After School Matters Program Specialist tou00a0maintainu00a0consistent lines of communication throughout the program sessionu00a0 + Attend all planning and program dates,u00a0including:u00a0staff training, professional development workshops, meetings and other required sessionsu00a0 + Help manage and track program activities such as attendance, test results, evaluation surveys, and pertinent student records in an online data tracking system (CitySpan).u00a0 + Other duties as assigned.u00a0u00a0 Supervisory Responsibilities:u00a0 + Supervise teens at an average of 10:1, instructor: teen ratiou00a0 Knowledge,u00a0Skillsu00a0and Abilities:u00a0u00a0 + Creative problem-solving skillsu00a0 + Customer service skills; ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders (teen participants, parents, ASM programs staff, vendors, etc.)u00a0 + Cultural competenceu00a0 Qualifications:u00a0 + Passion to improve the minds and lives of teensu00a0 + Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team playeru00a0 + At leastu00a060 hoursu00a0of college coursework, specifically in education or a related field preferredu00a0 + Experience working with young people/teens isu00a0requiredu00a0 + Commitment to diversity and inclusionu00a0u00a0 Compensation:u00a0$20 / hour About Us:u00a0After School Matters is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that annually offers after-school and summer programs to nearly 19,000 Chicago high school teens to explore and develop their talents while gaining critical skills that will set them up for success in college and beyond. Currently, After School Mattersu2019 annual operating budget is approximately $48M and employs approximately 500 staff across the organization.
