Description We are looking for a dedicated Paralegal with a foundational understanding of family law to join the team. This long-term contract position offers the opportunity to provide essential support to a Sole Practitioner handling sensitive domestic relations matters such as divorce, custody, child support, and adoption. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage cases with professionalism and empathy. Although expertise in family law is not required, familiarity with its basics is preferred. Responsibilities: u2022 Draft, prepare, and file various legal documents related to family law matters, including petitions, disclosures, financial affidavits, and settlement agreements. u2022 Organize case calendars, track deadlines, and coordinate schedules for hearings, mediations, and attorney appointments. u2022 Assist in the discovery process by managing documents, preparing disclosures, and coordinating with clients for information collection. u2022 Conduct legal research on family law statutes, case law, and procedural rules to support cases. u2022 Maintain effective communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders. u2022 Prepare trial materials such as notebooks, exhibits, witness lists, and other relevant documentation. u2022 Ensure that electronic and physical case files remain organized and up-to-date. u2022 Collect financial data from clients and assist in preparing preliminary child support and maintenance calculations. u2022 Coordinate appointments and mediation sessions with third-party professionals, including evaluators, guardians ad litem, and financial experts. u2022 Provide administrative assistance to attorneys as needed to ensure efficient case handling. Requirements u2022 Minimum of 2+ years of experience in civil litigation or civil law as a paralegal. u2022 Familiarity with domestic relations procedures and local court rules. u2022 Proficiency in legal case management software such as Clio, MyCase, ProLaw, or similar platforms. u2022 Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. u2022 High level of attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively. u2022 Capacity to work compassionately with clients facing emotionally sensitive situations. u2022 Experience with discovery, trial preparation, and e-filing processes. u2022 Strong organizational and case management skills.
