Summary The echocardiographer works in coordination with the cardiology team at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in order to provide ultrasound imaging of the heart for cardiac diagnostic testing. Close interaction with the cardiologists who interpret the echocardiograms is imperative to provide the highest quality assessment of heart structure and function. The echocardiographer will also work closely with trainees and the multidisciplinary team in the care of the cardiac patient. Responsibilities Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Cardiac Echocardiography Technician will be a part of the VISN 15 Hub and Spoke Network. This position may require travel to multiple duty stations within the Cardiology Hub and Spoke Network. The Cardiac Echocardiography Technician may also be required to report to different locations within the Cardiology Hub and Spoke Network for team meetings and other clinical responsibilities. The Cardiac Echocardiography Technician has intimate knowledge of thoracic anatomy and physiology as related to cardiovascular function. Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs high level cardiovascular testing with cardiology physicians and performs transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and biology, ultrasound physics, and cardiac sonography Fluent in the use and operation of the diagnostic equipment to provide adequate imaging of 2D, 3D, Doppler, M-mode imaging of the heart and associated structures Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and employees to help perform procedures in the care of cardiac patients Knowledge in proper and approved cleaning of the equipment is necessary Able to inventory and coordinate the ordering of supplies necessary for conducting echocardiograms Able to work with biomedical engineering to maintain all cardiac ultrasound equipment Ensures timely transfer of diagnostic images to the reporting server for inpatient and outpatient exams Ability to use word processing software and data entry software (Excel) to execute several functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files, activating printers, formatting reports, letters, memoranda, and copying imaging data for in-house or out-of-house providers according to VAMC regulations Ability to use the Veterans health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) to access information in the medical center computer system Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM Compressed/Flexible Schedule: Will be discussed during the interview (based on the needs of the agency) Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
