This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. DEPARTMENT: Traffic Engineering HOURS OF WORK: Flexible - Typically 4-10's 07:00 - 17:30 LOCATION: 3601 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. Job Bid Process Instructions In accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between the MOA and IBEW Local 1547, ONLY applicants who meet the minimum qualifications as identified will be forwarded electronically to the Chief Shop Steward (or designee). In addition, ONLY applicants who submit an official electronic application online (via NeoGov) AND a sealed bid packet to the Chief Steward (or designee) may be considered. The sealed bid packet must include and be completed as follows: + A copy of the printed official electronic application along with any required attachments as identified in the minimum qualifications. Applicants may obtain a copy of their official electronic application from the MOA's Employment Office. + Sealed and labeled with the date and position applied for printed on the exterior. + Signed across the sealed flap and printed name on the exterior. + Delivered to the Chief Shop Steward or Assistant Shop Steward no later than 3:30 PM on the closing date shown on this announcement. NOTE: Applicants will not be required to attach items that are required at time of appointment/hire. If selected, the effective date of appointment to this position will be indicated in the Bid Award Announcement. The selected candidate must successfully complete any pre-hire requirements prior to being placed in the position. Example of Duties Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of traffic signal control equipment (i.e., solid state controllers, vehicular and pedestrian signal displays, signal support standards aerial and underground wiring). Manages repair work on complex equipment, inspects construction projects, checks technicians work, and assists them on more difficult repair and installation tasks. Reviews project designs and specifications, prepares technical provisions for purchase orders, evaluates bids and recommends purchases. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences High school diploma or equivalent and an Associate or higher degree or equivalent technical school training in Electronics theory. Completed correspondence courses, military schools, ISCET or ETA accreditation, factory schools, vendor seminars and informal vendor instruction will weigh in technical school equivalency. Seven years directly applicable (hands-on) work experience. Consideration shall be granted for any combination of education and experience. Certificates/license requirements: Possession of an FCC General Radio Telephone operator license or other industry recognized operator license and/or an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Levels I & II. A valid Alaska driver's license. IMSA/State of Alaska Electrical Certification is desirable. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individualu2019s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service.
